Not sure if it's a G20/21 thing, but before 07/2020 i-step, the HUD mainly displayed driving assistance info when in comfort, but when you put it in Sport, it changed to the tachometer.

07/2020 broke it and not fixed in 11/2020 either. The only way you can get the tachometer in the HUD now, is to set it to always on in the menu, but then switch it back when you want the driving assistance info.
Do you not get the auto option ?

Starting to understand why this got broken. Seems they don’t have a standard menu across models for this. This is how it has always been set, so putting it in SPORT mode displays the tach, but it doesn’t do it. You can only change it to Always. Off and “In SPORT mode” are now essentially the same.

This is how it’s set on the G20/21:

Most likely a coding change than a firmware issue.

Have a look over the coding settings. Should be fixable one way or another.

The menu I have is for MY21 rather than G05 specific. It does switch to tacho when in sport mode.

This is the full coding if you want to try the newer menu

CB_HUD_FAS: nicht_aktiv [00]
CB_HUD_LIST_AUS: aktiv [01]

CB_HUD_LIST_FAS_PERMANENT: aktiv [01]

It worked! I now have the same “Additional Displays” menu and changed it to Automatic and now the tachometer displays when you switch to Sport mode!

Thanks for this! This was a really annoying issue as it was always in your line of sight every time you drove the car

Thanks for the help and info this weekend. All issues fixed!

FAS is Driving assistance systems translated from German.

FES are the driving modes

The rest you can work out. Try them and see.

I have coded TLA thanks to ifr’s codes and working nicely. Not perfect, in 11/2020.50 software sometimes recognize too late but is impressive to see this in action.

I suspect it is the dodgy Australian GPS map database does not contain the TLA data. Their maps alone in this part of the country is pretty ordinary. It is not the coding in the car.
Did you have to recode aSLA after your iStep upgrade to 03/2021?

Yes I did code TLA, and not supported on Aussie cars.

It uses KAFAS primarily.

I had an F25 X3 prior to the new X5 which I had an emulator retro fitted to it to read the Speed limit off the map database. I used to compare it's readings to my F15 that had SLI (8TH) fitted and it was surprising how much the F15 reverted back to the database momentarily (80kmph) even though the posted sign was (60kmph) and clearly visible. The new X5 is also showing this as well much like your observation you posted where it went from 30mph to 80mph?

Yes, the aSLA is using the nav data, in addition to KAFAS, which is clearly wrong in those instances.

TLA has to use KAFAS as it needs to dynamically read the light status (RAG) and also differentiate between the type of light in use.

Does the Map database also include a location list of where all the traffic lights are in order for the vehicle to look for them when approaching an intersection?
If this is the case I think this component may be omitted from the Australian database and why TLA does not work here as our traffic lights are similar in appearance to those in the U.K./EU or alternatively it may be geofenced like Traffic Jam that we have yet to circumvent

It could be a reason, but I don't see the logic for any dependence on the NAV mapping data as it uses KAFAS to identify and detect the status of the light whether the light is in the database or not. It's blocked because BMW have blocked it in software for AUSY, and is unlikely to be unlocked.

Same for eTJA. It's not a code/landmask that prevents it from working.

Could the "RAG" function possibly be disabled in the KAFAS module? via a command line in the 810 country code?
I was able to read these commands using Tokenmaster's NCD CAFD Tool but it no longer works.
I suppose i could test this theory by changing the country code to 801 (DE) or 824(UK) in the FA and VO code the KAFAS module
