Add me to the list. CarPlay doesn't connect every few days-- I especially notice it when I am in the car, drive with CarPlay working, leave to run an errand, and then return to the car after 15 minutes or so and CarPlay doesn't connect. Need to reboot the infotainment by holding the volume button. The reconnect via the menu doesn't work... reset is the onto thing. Only started with iDrive 8.5.
This was happening with my iPhone 14 Pro running iOS 16. Now that I have a iPhone 15 Pro running iOS 17, the same issues continue. This is majorly frustrating. Does BMW know of the issue? |

I been running into this CarPlay connection issue with my phone for the past month.
The issue comes down to the Bluetooth module, not wanting to connect or something. I put the vehicle in park and hold down the power button to restart idrive and the connection works every single time without an issue.

When this happens, I first try to re-enable the CarPlay connection in the Mobile Devices app. That sometimes fixes it. If not, a 30 second iDrive reboot usually does. Pretty annoying still…

Hi Folks,
I’ve had my X5 50e for less than 1 week and this CarPlay not connecting issue has happened about 4 times already. Yes, iDrive soft reset resolves this issue but this is VERY frustrating to have to deal with this with an 80K + car. Clearly this seems to be an iDrive 8.5 issue. Has this been raised as an issue with BMW directly? ( not sure how that works actually) I just upgraded my phone (iPhone 13 Pro) to iOS 17 so I’ll report back here if things improve. |

I will add that I sometimes have an issue with the CarPlay volume being really low (can turn it to "100%" on the digital dial, but it isn't as loud as a true 100%). This happens intermittently -- might be unrelated to CarPlay itself.

I have had this a few times as well. I usually jump into messages and have an unread message read or ask siri to start a new message. It then fixes it immediately. Hope that helps

Hi, My wife and I took delivery of a 2024X5 two weeks ago. My wife and I both have iPhones running 16.6 and no VPNs. We have been having similar issues as what is described here.
I did complain to the Dealer and they have the vehicle right now. They reported they had a fix and subsequently took it back. Will update you if they have a permanent fix for it. |

So Ive been experiencing a similar issue with carplay now. It all began after taking delivery of the vehicle a week and half ago. The main display screen would crash and reboot on its own and then I would have to do a soft reboot so that the central display would work again. Or the screen would crash after starting up the vehicle and I would notice that carplay wasnt automatically connected. Anyways I took it to the dealership for the iDrive crashing issue and apparently they did a hard software update. Carplay was working fine after I left the dealership but now when I started up the car the next day carplay isnt connecting at all even when I try selecting it through mobile devices. I rebooted the system several times and still doesnt connect. I even tried repairing my phone and still it only connects to bluetooth but not carplay. My phone is currently on ios 17 as well. Not sure if carplay was affected by the hard software update that was done by the dealership

I picked up my 40i Saturday at a dealership an eight hour drive from home.
I keep getting the message "Not possible to connect to this device. Bluetooth version is no longer compatible." I've rebooted the system multiple times, rebooted my phone, deleted and re-paired the phone with the car. Nothing has worked. Phone was initially on the last 16.something iOS, but I updated to 17 and the problem persists. The internal navigation system isn't working either. Whenever I start this, the system seems to loop but never initializes. This is probably the more serious issue, as the assisted driving, speed limit recognition, and other functions appear to be reliant on the navigation program. The car has iDrive 8.40. The remote update doesn't find a newer version. |

Regarding the BMW internal navigation system. What do you mean when you say it "loops"? Are you saying the whole system restarts or reboots when you try and enter a destination? If so, thats messed up and the dealer would have to fix that. Typically with iDrive 8.5 you enter a destination and the system will prompt you for the desired route. It may suggest up to 3 different routes. You do need to pick one. |

I continue to have same problem. One note: Car does not have to be in Park to soft re-boot. I did it three times today. Can’t be good for the hardware.

Same issue
Recently purchased and received 24' x5 50e in September. Carplay has been glitchy at best. Updated phone to iOS 17 last week and it never reconnects unless after hard reset which I must do every 24 to 48 hours.

The OTA has started to roll out in at least Canada and the UK. Hopefully in the US within a few weeks.

Add us to the list. Picked up our 50e last month. Both wife’s iPhone and mine are having issues connecting. Soft reset gets it to work. Pretty crazy theee are having this tech issue. Hope BMW figure this out quick!

This happened to me today as well. The only thing that would fix it was a soft reboot, though. All other volumes, like SiriusXM, we’re working fine, but Apple Music and phone calls were very very low.

Hi, I got exactly the same problem. My car is X5 40i, one of the first LCI ones produced in April 2023. The software is 03/2023.20 and I am using the latest iOS. I had the issue since the beginning, and usually the iDrive reboot helped. It happened again today, but restarts don't help anymore - and this time I get the message as in the attached JPG.
Tried resetting my phone, changing settings according to what I read in this thread, to no avail. Really frustrating, especially in a car like that. Has anyone else seen this error message and managed to fix it? |

My 2024 X5 50e in the US (NY area if that matters) is still on software version 07/2023.33 and not seeing any newer version available. Has anyone in the US with the same car been able to get a newer version OTA?
