Dealer says my 2019 X5 doesn't support Android Auto update
Is it true?
They are trying to tell me that the production date or something of the car wont accept the android auto update. When I go to installed apps there is nothing listed under there. Is a retro fit literally my only option. I am honestly pretty pissed because everytime I make a deal with a BMW genius they all tell me sure NP it has it it doesn't. Is this BMW's way of making me buy a 2023? Like wtf. I was really excited about this car... are they lying to me? https://www.mdecoder.com/decode/5uxcr6c55kll52469 Last edited by mikekay; 08-08-2022 at 05:07 PM.. Reason: adding VIN |

I'm pretty sure your software version pre-dates Android Auto and you will need to have it updated. You are almost 3 years and about eight major versions behind the current version that dealers have which is 7/2022.xx.
Have a look at my post here, since some of it likely applies to your case as well; https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...87&postcount=2 fwiw, BMW releases major updates 3 times per year, at months 3, 7, & 11 and OTA RSU (over the air remote software updates) tend to be at least 1 major release behind, but your vehicle will not necessarily receive every OTA that is released.

Thanks for the reply man.
So it will need to be updated by the dealer? Im just scared of taking delivery because Android Auto is a must bimmer code said they can enable 100% but dont know. Ive coded using esys before but an FSC is needed. Are you saying OTA wont even work on my version. BMW is making it really hard to love theee days with GV80s being brand new and costing the same as an X5. |

Well, its up to you, but I wouldn't accept delivery until they resolve the issue with the vehicle not receiving OTA updates, which should then also resolve the Android Auto issue.
Just give them the SIB I provided in my other post and tell them that the software update "issue" resolution is a condition of you accepting delivery.

Already printed my man! Thank you so much.
So the theory is this, the update to latest software done at BMW will get my car to a higher version and then enable android auto automagically? If the dealer knew that android auto was a requirement why is getting them to update my software such a big deal? Option 1: I dont go through with delivery until updated to latest, because of SIB Option 2: go through on the warranty side after the fact using SIB? Seems like its the update part they are reluctant to do in the first place ... |

Android Auto was not included when the G05 X5 was first produced (MY2019). It was added later with software update 7/2020. You can find some additional info at the site below;
BMW Android Auto: Is My Car Compatible? There was a BMW Press Release as well but I can't find it at the moment. Hope this helps, good luck

Thank you dude!!!
I have carplay prep on that car too. I was about to refuse delivery but might go the SIB warranty route and deal with it after delivery. Worst case scenario I dish out 1k for bimmer code to code it in. Im guessing all they are really doing in updating the idrive software... Dude told me there was an FSC code needed thats not true right? Once I get the new software that means my car become eligible and then the FSC is automatically added and adopted by the g05? |

Can't speak to the FSC being required, since I don't do any coding ... sorry.
But why waste money paying someone to resolve what should be a warranty issue? I would suggest you press the dealer to deal with the issue before delivery, that way it puts all the pressure on their shoulders instead of yours, and you can be sure it is dealt with properly. btw, I found the press release. attached it below, but here is the key sentence from your perspective; "Android Auto in a BMW will be demonstrated live for the first time at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2020 and will be available for customers from July 2020 for all vehicles with BMW Operating System 7.0." ...which would seem to indicate that software 7/2020.xx or higher is needed to support AA.

Hey sounds good I found it as well and listed it. Hopefully the dealer will be more inclined to help me out now with the SIB provided.
Totally true to get them to do it pre delivery! What if OTA updates do work and it just hasnt been updated? Also impossible right? Carplay preperation means at the very least I should have carplay right? Even carplay doesnt show up.... Could there be any missing hardware in my MY2019 G05 for Android Auto not to work. |

Carplay preparation meant that the X5 had all the required hardware (bluetooth, wifi, etc) to support connecting to an iPhone using Carplay, but later meant that it could also support AA. btw, both CP & AA are wireless ONLY, you can not connect either with a cable.
Initially (MY2019) Carplay was only available as a subscription that you would sign up for in the Connected Drive store, but after significant backlash, BMW decided to offer it free to everyone. So possibly it will also show up after the software is updated.

dealer did the OTA update and low and behold Carplay and Android Auto are there, so I dont know if the OTA worked in the first place and I could have just done it.
OR they used the SIB I provided as a checkmate type scenario and the dealership was like damn and had to update by wire, lol. Thanks again Fuzzy -- you rock! |
