LCI Steering Wheel Retrofit
Hey everyone,
So I’m doing a steering wheel conversion to an LCI steering wheel for my ‘25 X6 40i. I got the steering wheel from an aftermarket company and it fits perfectly, although the new vibration generator (32305A8A8D8) is located at the bottom of the steering wheel. My current steering wheel cable doesn’t reach the new vibration generator and the company didn’t include an extended one, so I thought about getting an LCI G8X harness (32307908508) or any other LCI steering wheel wiring harness. I was wondering if the new wiring harness is compatible ? The only issues I’m seeing is that an M wiring harness might throw an error code since the M1/M2 outlets aren’t connected. And the the connection between the harness, the horn plate and the wheel itself might not work.

Here you have all the part numbers
https://paddleshifterz.com/?s=Flat+b...ct&dgwt_wcas=1 If i am correct you will need: - steering wheel - steering wheel bottom cover - vibration module - steering wheel top cover - wiring harness - a steering wheel trim? https://paddleshifterz.com/?s=steeri...ct&dgwt_wcas=1 but which one? Because the x5 does not have m1 and m2 buttons. I want a black carbon fibre one. But the black ones have a cut out on top fot the m1 and m2 buttons? So only a silver trim is possible. Or you can order the buttons and mount them as a dummy? https://paddleshifterz.com/product/m...s-61318090047/ Last edited by dieter09; 09-18-2024 at 05:04 AM.. |

Yes, but BMW hasn't officially made a steering wheel for the X5/X6/X7's. Paddleshifterz confirmed the fitment for 2/3/4/Z series only. The wheel wiring harness made for those cars might not fit our cars, but I'm willing to try it out.
Correct, if you want the Carbon fiber trim, you'll have holes at the top. In my case, the steering wheel came with a wiring harness for the M1/M2 buttons for the center console so I can use them to scroll through the driving modes. If you buy the parts from BMW themselves, you'll need to get everything separately, however if you get the wheel aftermarket, they include everything.

I ordered non-carbon version steering wheel to better match my non-carbon interior, and this button layout is nearly identical to my car. Also you need to order a G20/G42/G87/ airbag since X5 airbag won't fit into this flat bottom steering wheel. I paid nearly $2k total. Maybe I can sell the stock steering wheel and airbag to minimize the damage. Since steering wheel is something you'll see/touch/use 100% of time during driving, I think it's a worthwhile purchase and it will probably add about 5 hp...
