Sunshade recommendation

I tried searching the forum but couldn't find anything. I ordered OEM BMW Sunshade and for the hell of me I can't make it fit without have t move my mirror. Anyone has better recommendation? I do like the quality of the OEM, but the fit isn't as expected.

I know what you mean, I used to use the hard folded type in all my cars, some fit better than others but in the X5 between the large after thought LCD stick up in the air display and the mirror, I kept hitting both as I was either installing or removing the sunscreen.
Someone on this forum suggested I try a more flexible one from Heatshield so I bought it. I guess I can say that none are perfect in terms of putting them in or taking them out of the windshield. The windshield is big so the sunscreen has to be big and therein lies the issue but the Heatshield is a much better fit than the foldable hard board type. It fits like a glove but you do have to bend the area of the sunscreen that wraps around the mirror a little to get it in past the mirror but it's so flexible that it bends easily.

Here is their website and below that is a link to a sunscreen topic posted on this forum a while ago where you can see the pix of mine as its installed

I've got a Carryover UV100. Maybe it has -shrunk- but I feel like the area by the rearview is actually a -smidge- larger than it was when it was new (I know it couldn't have shrunk as it's just hard foam and covering) but I swear I don't really having this slightly larger opening.

Anyhow, with that said, I've passed by another G05 parked with a sunshade that appears to have a higher cut to the mirror (which blocks more).

Another vote for heatshield. I have been using these for 4 bmw. They are custom made to fit the any cars. Very good quality. Not inexpensive tho. Oldest one is 20 years by now, still holding up ok. Having that said, it haven’t order one for x5. I have too many other sunshade laying around at home. One of the folded one happen to fit x5 very well, so I use it for now.

This one: KUST Windshield Sun Shade for 2019-2023 2024 BMW X5 Window Shade Sun Visor Protector Foldable Blocks UV Rays Keep Your Car Cooler https://a.co/d/gLYKGql

But it is by far not as good as heatshield

I got a sunshade/sunscreen from Covercraft and it fits like a glove all around the windshield perimeter and inside mirror.
For X5 45e (MY 2023) with DAPP the Part Number: UV11627GS
Price: $93.32

I’ve owned Covercrafts for my last two vehicles and they can’t be beat for looks, durability, and custom fit. Looks like the price has gone up significantly though.

Is that the correct model for the 2024 X5? They don't seem to have that on their configurator

And what's the difference between the "UVS100 Custom Sunscreen" and the "UVS100 Premier Series Custom Sunscreen"? They have different part numbers for the 2023 X5.

I use this umbrella kind of sunshade. Works pretty well and its fits almost perfectly on X5

edit: actually they use a G05 X5 as their product picture. I was wondering how it fits so well on X5.

I was looking at that when I was in the market for a sunshade, I thought.. .. how clever is that? Quick to put in and take out and small for storing....but, I didn't buy it because I was concerned that the handle would lay against the LCD screen or HVAC controls when it was installed. So, since you have one, can you speak to that? Got any pix you'd like to share?

I have the same one, and I'll say for a "custom" made screen, there's actually quite a bit of space on both sides and the top.

Could have easily been 1" taller and 2" wider.

I've had mine for a year, but working from home it doesn't get a lot of in & out, so the jury's still out on durability. A couple spots along the edges bent pretty easily.

had the same concern initially. I just wrap a small bag in case, but i find if you position it correctly (using sun visor to hold it) the handle is not really touching anything.

re: the 'brella shade, I've be scared s##less on anything up front. It takes one odd hit in the center console to get a crack in the clear......

Regardless, I think where the hard folding styles excel is the -foam- core. I use the sunshade when we hit the beach, etc where the car is sitting parked for hrs at a time. When removing the sunshade, the board overall feels -warm/hot- even on the backside of the board. There is a thermal insulating mass to this.....which you don't get with the softer reflective fabric only type

Edit: I tested again. while the metal part will not touch any trim, the plastic (feels a bit soft / rubbery) part may rest on the vent trim when it is loose. I am not overly worried as the handle feels much softer than the trim piece, but one could also wrap the handle in a small cloth draw string bag.

I bought this one off amazon and it fits very well. I like it comes with a pouch to store it away as well. The shade has double layers and feel much sturdier than regular ones.

Another vote for the Heatshield.
Look for the 10 or 15% promotional discount code.

I bought 2 and the company says they're custom fit. I think they're far from custom fit. Over priced and too small lol. They work but I think they should remove "custom"

I’ve used Covercraft sunshades in my last three vehicles and also just ordered another one for my incoming X5. I would agree that the Covercraft may not go full edge to edge and to leave some space around the rear view mirror housing, I still find them to be very effective and durable. They are much better than those roll up sunshades IMHO. One thing I will say though, they are hot AF when taking down after spending some time in the sun!

Best thing you can do is put ceramic tint on all the glass. But as far as sun shades go; I have run heat shields on my last 10 vehicles. Custom cut to the windshield, easy to install and remove. The issue I have with the hard covers is they’re not as flexible and tend to bang around.

+100 to the ceramic tint! My M3 was first time I had the windshield tinted on a vehicle and that definitely helped.

I like the hard cover like Covercraft for that exact thing, doesn’t bend and is stiff. Very easy to just expand it and get it into place without much fuss at all.

My three current vehicles, all have ceramic tint, two of them have panoramic roof and those are tinted. And two of them are black and one lives outside. It makes a huge difference, especially when all the glass is done. I don’t really use a sunshade much unless it’s gonna sit for an extended period of time or if it’s a really hot Texas day. It’s worth the premium over regular tint for sure.

My buddy has one and when I drive his truck, it has been a whipping for me to get it around the rear view mirror. So maybe I’m just not used to it but either get cover craft or heat shield, both are custom cut and both work amazing. Just depends on your preference for ease of application.
