how to watch youtube or movies on idrive 7

Hi I have been driving x5 45e about 3 weeks now and loving it every time I get in. what a car.
I just happened to charge in public charging station and tried to find a way to mirror my iphone to screen but no luck..
Are there ways to watch movies(usb thumdrive?) or youtube streaming on screen?

You can code it to watch movies and youtube or anything from your phone.

You have to buy a BimmerCode App and a compatible OBD adapter in order to code Video in Motion, not sure about mirroring your iPhone, but you can have videos on a USB memory stick and have them played on your iDrive screen, I do have more than one hundred music videos on it and works like great, I even have the ability to browse the songs via my HUD too
Cheers and good luck 🍀

Does this mod void any warranty remaining on the car? Just bought mine.

They would have to show that the coding you did caused the problem you are having. That would be an unlikely scenario.

Agreed, I have been using video in motion probably for 6 years already, no issues whatsoever and dealer never detected the coding

I've coded VIM on BMW's for years, on numerous cars and I've had many warranty repairs in that time with no issues. Just my experience.

So it looks like even after coding, the only option is to play videos via usb if you own an iphone. Does it support hdmi to hook in a chromecast or firestick ?

Though I haven't tried but you could try getting an HDMI to USB adapter off Amazon and see if it works.

It's one thing to watch movies while you're in park, it's another entirely if you do while moving. The later is illegal everywhere in the USA. The odds are not high of getting caught, but if you are, it can be a pretty serious hit.

Why do BMW lock this feature?
Had default ON with a F30 in Australia

Just got the ID8.5 and it's turned OFF.

Can't code anything at all 😞

Bimmercode don't give up.

it's been discussed in other threads that coding isn't possible on 2024 X5 anymore due to BMW locking the modules (or something like that). no fix from BimmerCode at this time...and seems unlikely

I can only hope as the subscription services are going to be dumped so will the encryption.
But that I doubt.

I just want the disclaimer removed.

And YouTube and Video turned on please BMW...

While in park, you should be able to watch video. In some markets, you can watch video while moving, but that's illegal in the USA. If you have the video on a USB stick, you should be able to see that to select...not sure about streaming from a phone.

Good grief, now we are looking to watch movies while driving? I guess texting while driving isn't bad enough. Really stupid stuff.
I can just see some of these monkeys around here cutting across three lanes of traffic 30 MPH over the speed limit to get one car length ahead at the next red light while taking in a good movie. Wow, just wow.

FWIW, VIM (video in motion) is legal in some parts of the world, but is not in the USA, so it is disabled except when in park in the USA. But, there's a company that has been around for years that sells a USB stick that reprograms (most?) BMWs to enable that function, and it's codable with some tools like BimmerCode, at least on some models. Mercedes has a polarized screen where the central screen on some models will let the passenger watch a movie that is blocked from the driver's seat through some neat optics. The OPs request was how to watch a movie while he was parked at a charging station...this is possible from what I hear, but I've not tried it.

Yeah on my previous F30 3 series in bimmercode you could turn on video while driving.

OMG I never turned that on a disaster ready to happen.

The Merc and Range Rover screen is a good safe way.

Imagine watching movies on your HUD as you drive to work. You could even try to keep up with the Kardashians as you apply the latest Jenner make ups while sitting in traffic. WOW! Sign me up! What are the coding params for this!?

You can utilize the built-in entertainment system by connecting a USB thumb drive with compatible media files. However, streaming YouTube directly onto the screen may not be possible without additional hardware or software modifications, as iDrive 7 typically doesn't support direct streaming from online platforms like YouTube.
