BMW X5 - production
How long does it take to produce new X5 now? I am waiting for info from my dealer in Czech Republic and it depends what you have in your specification - Mpaket, air suspension etc. It can take up to 1 year. Is here any informed person about the current status in the production? I heard some rumors that BMW took some parts from 1er to be able to produce cars X5,X6 or X7.
Thank you. Michael |

Here in the US, its 2-4 months from order to delivery from what I have heard from most. Can't really speak to international.

There is no way to answer that universally. It depends on the allocation to your country and within your country what the dealer's allocation is. And even then you don't really know. As for options some are not available in all countries, and some can be ordered but may or be stripped from your order. All that depends. I would say the best answer is to wait for what your dealer says. If that turns out to be an extremely long wait, you may try if you can get an import from Germany. The car should be same spec as the German ones anyway.
My car is a September order, with custom paint, B&W audio and other stuff that might cause waits or deletes. Yet, it is already produced and in transit and if nothing goes wrong will in my hand by the end of the month. Another - earlier - 45e with a simpler build and no custom paint (which is usually a 4 week delay at least) will arrive later. Same dealer. |

Once everything is in place, the actual 'build' is usually less than a day. NOw, getting to that point depends very much on how orders are prioritized by your country, and when they have actual build slots at the factory reserved. I don't know how it works outside of the USA, but in the USA, each dealer is given a certain number of build slots where he can order a vehicle to be built. He knows those dates at least a few months in advance and can use them to have a vehicle built for his inventory, or customize it for a particular customer. Prior to the configuration being locked in, he can modify it, if needed, for a customer's preference. That customization window is open until about 2-weeks prior to the actual start of the vehicle down the production line as all of the specific parts need to be ordered (seats, trim, etc., stuff that is not necessarily made in the factory).
Then, you have the transportation issue. From what I hear, ships leave about every week or so, but it may need to be transferred between them along the way, and maybe also see a train and likely a truck to get it to its final destination. The negotiation of which market gets build slots and when is a matter between corporate in Germany and the local company and may vary from market to market. |
