The Apple Wallet key is Awesome

I was super annoyed it was a pain to get a key ring in this new key fob and litterally just stopped by the dealer to get the stupid $80 ‘performance key fob holder’ cause sure I want carbon fiber and alcantera just to have a key chain.

But wife added the remote key to her iPhone and it’s fantastic! She doesn’t need a key physical key at all anymore.

BMW definitely has the best driver features. I hope my car has this (Macan EV on order) I think they are a launch partner too.

beware, it's not perfect. you still need the physical key fob on occasion, such as service visits

Agreed! I love this feature and never carry the fob unless I have to give it to someone, which rarely happens. I carry the card in my wallet as a backup, but my phone has literally never failed to unlock or start the car. Yet.

Agreed -- It's a great feature and has been totally reliable for me.

Read about that. Was she supposed to get a key card too? Or is that an additional add-on?

Just found a BMW digital key in the manual in glove box. Would’ve been nice if they told us this. Will probably remove, I’m sure the plastic valet key is the way my first Audi was stolen from my driveway.

I agree. I have found it flawless so far - touch wood (3 months so far) - I carried the fob in my work bag for a while but haven’t for a while.
I love remote starting. The car from my apple watch too. That’s fun.
I read about some of the inconsistencies and hope that I continue to have success. It really is very cool.
I want to setup the key card but, for the life of me I can’t find the dang thing! 🥴

I love this feature and never use my FOBs. The iWatch is also great. When I had to drop the car off at the dealership because it's a 50e, I forgot the FOB and they would not take my watch to use.

I love this feature and never carry a key. I never got a card unfortunately so I just use my watch and phone.

I’ve forgotten my fob multiple times when dropping it off to have work done.

My favorite was when I left it at the retailer for a couple of weeks without a key.

I just got the cell phone numbers of the people doing the work, and jumped into the app to add their numbers as approved drivers. They got the invites, confirmed a security code, and used their phones to do what they needed.

Once I had it back, I removed their access right from my phone.

Very convenient.

I take my fob when out of town, otherwise, it's just the phone. Mrs Crab also has the digital key in hers which she likes; doesn't have to wait for me or carry a fob to get in the car.

I only wear my smartwatch to the gym or while travelling, I never bothered putting the digital key on it.

Yup after three quarters of a year it is stable enough for day to day using. I have the proxy Auto Unlock not unlocking twice, and iPhone prompt me to enter passcode before can continue use once. Perfectly Acceptable for in-town use

Yes, all the time I use iPhone wallet key, and I also carry the plastic key card in my wallet as a back up.

Same, use Apple Watch and iPhone as the keys every day, and always carrying the card key in my wallet as backup.

It’s been reliable for me except after software updates. Twice now after an update the digital key somehow became inoperable and I had to go and grab the physical key. As a result I do not update except at home, and only when I have the physical keyfob.

The (potential) problem with the watch is that you can leave your phone or fob in the house, but you may not want to leave your watch.

I can get my messages, phone calls, all that, on my watch, so leaving the phone and fob in the house when I'm puttering in the garage doesn't cut me off from connectivity. If I have the key on the watch, then I get the car constantly beeping when I'm working in the garage. I was also surprised by the range of the watch, It will unlock the car in the garage, but also the laundry room, mud room, and one of the half baths. Every single time the watch buzzes me telling me the car is unlocked. No it's locked again. Unlocked. Locked again. Unlocked...

On the other hand a watch isn't a great substitute for a phone and there is no chance I'm leaving the house without my phone. This means I'm already covered with the phone for the car.

For some people the watch is probably fine, for me, it was problematic and didn't add anything to carry that weight.
