things to watch out for in covid-era cars?
i bought my wife's X5 M50 in '22 and remember there being a bunch of weird options not available (like no touch screens for a hot second, etc.)
i'm now looking at pre-LCI X5 Ms and want to make sure I don't run into that by accident. anyone have a roundup of what was dropped and when?

Weren’t M vehicles the only lines that were not limited for options. They were the last to get limited options due to Covid. Especially 5’ers and above. The X3M comp I sold for my LCI X5M didn’t get the wireless charging bay; that was the only thing not available due to supply chain nonsense.

B&W stereo and wheel style 818M. Not sure if wireless charging was affected, as it was on the G8x’s (my ‘22 M4 vert doesn’t have wireless charging). I was fortunate that my ‘21 X5M comp had no restrictions as I was able to spec B&W, 818M and have the useless wireless charging. MY 21 and MY 22 are the ones to look out for, but those will also have low mileage due to the travel restrictions—its a trade off.

Wireless charging was an issue - my copy didn’t get it… but I did get the 818 wheels and B&W in my 2022 which are rare and my personal favorite on the color I chose for its equal rarity.

Rear seat trunk latch folding mechanism is gone (and still is)
Phone charger Subwoofer on B&W is gone (Thanks BMW) Get a '21. My '23 is a downgrade over my '21.

In the spare tire compartment. Go take a look at the other thread where another member is installing a different sub back there and you can see what the OEM looks like. The '23 I have has nothing there. Just an empty compartment.

Literally go look at the other thread. It is indeed there.

It will be interesting with the COVID era cars slowly starting to be turned in, but the customer walking off the street will probably have no idea what is missing when they consider to purchase a COVID car. I beleive that for a short time the X5 series models (non- M’s) lacked touchscreen.
Wheel 818M finally was fully available again with the LCI. The sub-woofers are located under the seats, as I highly doubt they were missing for a $3,400 opition.

All new G05/F95's subs are under the front seats. In fact, BMW has placed the subs under the front seats on most of their entire lineup for decades. The other guy must be thinking of VW group (VW, Porsche, Audi) vehicles. They do that with their Bose systems.

Yeah, what I was referring that those were under the seat and I wasn't aware of one in the truck ever been an option. Thanks for confirming. I have 2023 and so far haven't found anything that was missing.

an interesting thing that i spotted (and this may not be related to covid but probably is) is that the '23 cars don't come with 8SL -- trailer prewire. My wife's '22 X5 m50 is also missing it, but the '22 and '21 MC models I've been running through the decoder have it. For the non-M models they wouldn't let you spec the towing package for a few months in '22 but when it came back they still stopped sticking the prewire into all new cars.

I have a ‘21 comp and believe the only options I missed we’re having a full Alcanterra headliner with the sunroof and the option for night vision, but I did gain digital key from the prior year.
