The real problem is that we seem to be culturally incapable of having an honest debate about the real complexity of the problem. We are too busy picking sides and looking for ways to justify our position. As long as some profit from the victimization and others profit from the complete denial - either in terms of money or power - then we won't have a real conversation. The same can be said for nearly every politicized issue in the US today. (Maybe elsewhere, I don't claim to know enough about global politics to comment.)
