Order delays due to Coronavirus ?

Anyone shed any light whether BMW has supply chain issues that could affect the delivery of cars in April or may ? I've got an X5 on the way and I'm thinking it's only a matter of time before bits get used up at Spartanburg

It's down for delivery to dealer 3rd/4th week April

I have the same concerns. I normally had a production slot in January. Production is now pushed forward to April. I don't know if this is Corona related. My dealer just blames it on "capacity" problems.
If it's not Corona related I'm afraid there will be Corona related problems in April.

Yes my friend, It all depends on stock levels and where a lot of the parts of the X5 originate from etc

Mine did go into production about 2 weeks ago
Does anyone even know how long it takes to build a complete car ?

So the time it takes for production start to rolling out of the factory ? A week ?

Actual production takes a few hours. More than likely yours in the Production Begins status which means that a production slot has been scheduled. The length of that phase varies but usually is 2-3 weeks. You can call Genius and get the estimated completion date.

Edit: I see you are in the UK so hopefully someone will chime in if the completion date is available from Genius.

One good recommendation to be careful and safe, check reviews first. So if you are looking for a transmission jack, this review https://theeffectiveguide.com/best-f...smission-jack/ will help you a lot. This highlights the features, specifications, and price as well and honest reviews about the product.

You could probably get a slot already scheduled for production ? That way your car could be with you within weeks of ordering. And you can alter the spec fully, otherwise the dealers adds an appealing spec and then hopes some punter will come along and fall in love with it!
I'd shop around and ask for scheduled for production slots rather than starting from scratch! Some folk on here can give you the code for "scheduled for production"

Article in the Uk about about production difficulties for Jaguar landrover. Can’t see BMW being any different. With the Just in Time supply chain of all these factories they only have have a few days parts at the most. Even VW who have the biggest car plant in the world would run out under the current conditions. I assume that a number of parts are manufactured in China. The fallout from this could be massive.

Yes. Quite a few news reports about auto manufacturers, in general, being impacted by the virus. Would not expect BMW to be immune.

If it is really what you want, order it. The wait is always a killer, but it pales in comparison to the time you will enjoy experiencing your X5 that was built just the way you wanted it.

The X5 is built in Spartanburg. The facility is open however there could be part constraints. However, I don't see how a facility that closes in Europe will affect the production of X5's in the US.

More of an issue around supply chain and availability of parts (made in China) than site of assembly.

Spot on. Being myself in the manufacturing business, we see output of parts (electronic components for us) being disrupted.

The entire automotive industry has gone to a just in time manufacturing process.

You only need 1 part for which you don't have spare stock to be bring an entire assembly line down.

My dealer told me there has not been any internal communication about delays caused by the corona virus. (at least not for my x5 45e order)
Chances on dying from the eternal wait are bigger if you ask me :-)

Have been waiting for missing headliner parts for 6 months, without the coronavirus.

BMW officially had to quarantine 150 employees. Don’t underestimate the ability of the Coronavirus to cause significant delays. Who knows where it goes, but Germany had a significant jump in cases.

I just called BMW Genius in the US and spoke with someone there. The representative told me that my 2020 G06 went into the system on Feb 21st and the build is expected to complete on March 4th.

What details do you need to be able to track a build?

Details needed to track a build?

You need your production number or the last 7 digits of your new VIN (once assigned).
