Really strange. The funny thing about the configurator is that I was sure that without the leather dash it still showed the stitching which is easily seen on the right side of the dash when you're choosing a trim. But today when I checked I see just smooth dash; no stitching. Anyway, added leather dash to my order because it seems rather unclear. That said, I would have been fine with the non leather stitched dash that you guys got but not so happy if I got the non-stitched one.

Thanks, yours looks good also. My wife picked out all of the colors and trim, think she did a great job.

Yep seems like dash-gate is upon us. I ordered the leather due to the nice stitching and the fact that the non-leather dashboards I had seen were too plain. These recent 'stitched' non-leather dashboards look great.

Maybe the plain dash was only offered back when there was a leather credit. Here is a picture of a pretty basic X5 from my dealer's site and it has the stitching. Door tag shows 12/18 for build.
Does anyone with a "plain" non leather dash have a build after 11/18? |

I have been looking at a bunch of different dealers inventories and so far every one that I saw with the plain non-leather dash had a build date of 11/8, every one with a stitched non-leather dash had a build of 12/18 or later.

Interesting. Well I may change my recommendation based on these newer stitched non leather options. They look good and save some cash.

I would recommend looking at it in person first. I actually prefer the look of my plain black dash than the non-leather stitched covering.

Do any of those that received the non-leather stitched dash have extended merino? Does the stitching also cover above the doors as I believe that was only covered with the leather dash option as well? Thanks!

The base model loaner I received without the leather dash option had both the dash and upper doors covered in a stitched material.

With both the stitching on the dash and the doors on the non-leather vehicles, I find this very attractive and a huge improvement over previous generations. It is weird though that BMW produced some cars without this and the configurator still differentiates the image provided without the leather dash selected.
Long story short, I would conclude that the leather dash is beautiful but likely not that different than the non-leather one. For most then, it is probably not worth the upcharge. |

Glad I canceled my earlier build with non-leather dash. This looks so much better. I wouldn't be a happy camper.

A December 10th build, however, with sesatec has the stitched dash. So, it would seem that sometime in early December they changed to the stitched dash. |

Same 1/18 build with Black Vernasca multi-contour seats.
So somewhere in late 2018, they had a bunch of random non-leather stiched dashboards in the supply chain and used them until they ran out? |

Actually just found another produced December 19th that still had the non stitched dash. MSRP is $80K. Good luck selling that one.

This thread is getting confusing. It seems we have no clear cut answer to the question if you order today will you get a stitched non leather dash or not.
