Will the dealer make it right to you? It’s such an aesthetic issue so I am concerned that the dealer didn’t have to do anything to fix it.

No update, since 2020's are not in production yet. SOP is next month.

There is nothing the dealer can do, BMW does not consider it a defect. All the online pix on BMW sites show nice smooth leather, no wrinkles, no puckers, no pleats, just smooth leather and it looks so nice.
Go to a BMW dealer and have a look at their inventory, you might see one without wrinkles, maybe, but the majority that I have seen have the wrinkles. Some are very minor and consistent from left to right on each seat, this looks intentional, but some are downright hideous and look like they will leave impressions in your back
When I asked a dealer if they could guarrantee me a wrinkle free car, they said no. I told them I would reject the car if it has wrinkles and they said its better not to order one then. I decided to wait for the 2020 model and hopefully by then the wrinkles would be gone or under control and the many high tech gremlins as well. Still waiting.

As a point of interest from the posts, these are also "by design." And expensive. That doesn't necessarily make them visually attractive except to a peer-influenced pre-teen:

Perhaps the BMW Interior Design Department needs to get out more, stretch their horizons, mingle with adults....

You're delusional... if they were "supposed" to be that way, it would be consistent across all builds (and it's not). It's also not representative of any build configurator.

What a great thread to spend my Saturday, I read it completely

I'm awaiting a 2020 45e with extended Merino Coffee leather. To be honest I like the look of the minor/moderate consistent wrinkled seats. They look super comfy, more comfy and luxurious than non-wrinkled seats
But seats like bigsanj had look horrendous, I wouldn't be happy if my car had seats like that.

So I leave in the middle if its QC or by design

What happened with bigsanj and his second G05?

Mercedes stores 10.000 luxury SUV's at a German airfield The cars were produced at Tuscaloosa in the US.

Quality problems with seats, fenders and suppliers. Mercedes already did have to take back cars from angry customers.

Do they have the same seats supplier Magna as BMW?

Hey Heavy D,

i got my second G05 back in June, some minor issues with the seats; nowhere near as bad as my first G05; but still noticable etc, dealer took pics, i took pics and sent them off to BMW GB Cust Services,

i added in my email given that you are charging circa £3500 for the extended leather and more premium leather than my first G05; the issue persists if not so aggressive, lets meet half way on the cost of the seats.

they did - i got a refund for 50% within 10 days straight into my bank account.

Hope this helps!

Hi BigSanj,
That's not a bad deal. I was also at the dealer last weekend and all the X5's in the showroom had moderate wrinkled backseats. But nothing like your first car.
I still haven't seen a wrinkle free car at any dealer the past few weeks.
Remains the question is it a QC problem or by design

They expect the first 45e's in December to be delivered to customers. I think I'm gonna take a look when they get 2020 production. My car is for April 2020 and hopefully moderate wrinkled

Received my car today, and the seats are wrinkly, but in a 'consistent' way. It's really not that bad at all, and they are quite comfy. It now definitely look like "on purpose" -- I think on the first few months they didn't really know how to make the leather wrinkles consistent, and now, they do.

Strange, my local dealer just got several 2020 X5s and the rear seats were 99% wrinkle free. There still seems to be a severe lack of consistency here.

Wonder if the seats were Sansatec? Since those are not as soft, probably aren't prone to the "comfort" wrinkles.

That is correct, they do not put the "wrinkles" in the Sensatec seats from all of the pictures we have seen.

When the car arrived at the dealer I was disappointed on the quality of the seats in the back, they were more wrinkled than I hoped for.

so I made a complaint, and even said that I would reject the car, although it is one of the first 45e that had been delivered. The dealer took my complaint serious and discussed with bmw belux. The took it for repair to a specialised company.
This is the result:

Unbelievable and who paid for the de-wrinkling?

Unbelievable BMW hasn't fixed the wrinkle issue yet. Impressive work of the company that fixed the wrinkles.

I'm afraid how mine backseats will look like when the 45e is delivered.

Good to know that BMW Belux will fix it when you complain

What did the dealer say about the wrinkels? Is this normal, acceptable or sub standard and problems with quality control?
