They are making SAVs for the entire world. Wonder how this compares to GM SUV plants?

This may seem like a minor point but currently, BMW plant Spartanburg is installing two different iDrive versions across the 5 model lines:

X3/X4/X6: iDrive 6.0
X5/X7: iDrive 7.0

Not sure how much alteration this requires to the production line. X5 and X6 are using different iDrive versions until the new X6 arrives Fall '19 I believe.

Both of my cousins work there. I told them about the Union Pacific Railroad accident a couple years ago in a small town in SC. The derailment obviously trashed hundreds of X vehicles headed to Charleston. Luckily no one was seriously injured. They had no knowledge about the accident/waste of labor.

For some reason I thought BMW sold more X3s than X5s
seems like I see more X3 on the road

also shocked at the X4 number, where I live I haven't seen a single one yet (other than at dealerships) but see a lot of new X3s

For the Green guys and gals out there and the people that care about our Environment.

Fun fact, the Spartanburg plant runs on methane from the local garbage landfill. Quite innovative I would say.

Largest exporter of vehicles to China too. I guess that will change with the new billion dollar plant in Malaysia and the retaliatory tariffs against US made vehicles thanks to agent orange

this is old and strictly sales data but add 10-15% and you'll have a good idea of total production

Just for the month of January 2019. 400-450 X5s per day is their target. The factory runs 24/7. There is downtime in between shift changes.
You have to realize that X5s are made in the US but also most of them are exported so that figure is not only US based cars but worldwide
I believe they make chinese X5s in China after they slapped 25% tax on US exports to China in response to Trumps tax increase on Chinese products.

The X models and Spartanburg itself have been nothing short of a runaway success. Both our family cars are now 'X' and I'm delighted with that.

Kudos to BMW for catching the wave at the right moment.

This high volume of car production and sales is good news for BMW as a company. However, when mass production is at the expense of the PRODUCT, and/or quality, that is bad news. Particularly for a luxury brand that relies upon the greatness of its product.

The X5 and X7 are both limited in production right now, customers can't get what they had ordered, because BMW pushed production beyond what parts supplies and logistics can keep up with. Specifically, laser lights are on hold, as BMW is producing more than they have supplies available to fully configure.

G05 X5 models have had numerous early production issues, including poor quality in seat manufacturing. BMW officials quietly acknowledge the poor quality, while being unable to issue any recall or public acknowledgement, as they're just pumping out too many vehicles to do anything about it, and the cost to rectify the problem right now is not worth it at this volume.

That being said, I'm thinking of getting an X7 myself, when this volatility settles down, and the initial release kinks works out.

Not currently. Due to the 25% hike in Tariffs, BMW China is building its own X Savs and other BMW sedans. No imports for this market
