I wonder if you can accept your build without them with the plan to have the dealer retro fit them whenever they become available. Hopefully in a couple months or so.

Hmmm...not happy about this either. However, I am not even clear what the stock headlights are. I would guess LED? And do they look the same sort of? Can anyone compare and contrast in terms of aesthetics?

Standard headlights are full LED with very similar look except the blue insert that's in the middle or laser ones

I'm old enough to remember when full LED lights were an amazing option worth paying thousands for.

Those panicking over lasers remind me of:

That was also a suggestion but that wouldn't be possible unless you paid to have them do it at a later date. I'm sure the dealers will get more info on an ETA in days or weeks from now.

I'm not sure how many of the past X5 purchases were ordered with laser lights. I'm sure depending on that % demand would create a slow down on future orders of X5's. If at the time I ordered my X5 that the laser lights were not available I would have waited but that's just me.

So the daytime running lights then are exactly the same? Sure seems that's the case.

AFAIK, the non-lasers offered in the US also lack the hardware of the cornering lights. Although we know by now that they are currently disabled on the laser light equipped X5s as well, at least the vehicles with the laser lights have the required hardware and MIGHT be activated later.

If you go with the non-lasers, no cornering lights. Ever.

Maybe something to consider for some...

Did anyone in the US with an active order currently pending production actually get officially notified of this by their dealer and/or BMWNA?

I have an active "production begins" order and just got VIN today. Have laser lights as added option and haven't heard a thing. But my dealer has lied this whole process so expect nothing but further lies just so they get sale. If I hear anything will post.

I have not received any notification either. Order was placed 2/18 and the car is scheduled for production. My CA was crossing her fingers for a late March delivery, I am not holding my breath

I don't believe they are aesthetically similar. The non laser are the half circle under eye bag look and the lasers go up more with the semi circle. It's frankly quite greedy for bmw to offer such a lazy LED pattern as standard compared to the GLE and Q7 DRL

The Angel Eye's are a signature BMW design accent so it's only proper for them to keep it modern in some way.

ignore the odd rainbowing in this picture, I used a CPL filter as should be obvious

laser lights also get the beautiful blue accents inside

ditto!

I'm about ready to tape a light meter to the headlight, get er up to speed and see if lasers really doing anything.

I know some people say they can tell when the laser lights come on but I've paid darn close attention and I just don't see it.

So bmw called me today to see if I am happy with my x5. I asked about laser lights. I was told you can trigger them to come on by turning on high beams and also being above 35mph

You should have asked about the cornering lights.

They really should have just kept the same design for the Laser and LED lights, only difference being the blue parts. The standard LED's aren't recognisably BMW anymore, and I imagine that some people would have got the Laser Lights just for the proper BMW design.

Maybe they wouldn't be out of supply if they made the LED lights a bit more enticing.
