Front camera and Grille?

No idea how it happened but the camera shroud on the front camera broke. The dealership told me I have to order a new grille and from them it’s $980. My question is, has anyone ordered a carbon fiber grille/kidney? Who would you recommend? I’m going to assume this piece will be part of any carbon fiber kidney?

Not answering the question here but why are you paying for it? Shouldn't your insurance cover it?

I would hate to put a claim in for $1000. I don’t mind buying the part but I would hate to buy oem for the same price as the carbon fiber grille.

I was struggling to understand the crack on the shroud, but a picture is worth 1,000 words like they say. That's an odd breakage...something hard hit it, but it spared the camera. Weird as heck.

oem black grill from online bmw parts is about 385 last i checked. oem carbon one is about 1K. I always go oem carbon if its available. always perfect fit and finish.

Just picked the car from service. The service rep gave me a quote for $980. Not including install but thank you for letting me know, ended up ordering the carbon.

Sherlock Holmes type Speculation:

This happened by a handlebar of a bicycle! Someone squeezed themselves between the front of the X5 to another vehicle and the handlebar tapped the grill's inlay which applied pressure on the camera mount.

FYI The removal and install takes approx 30secs. pull out and snap back in. easier to do when the engine is hot so the plastics are more flexible.
