I thought this would be a really interesting discussion. Earlier this morning Jalopnik featured this question in a post of theirs where the writer answered with the MK4 Supra.

So, of any beloved or favorited cars in the automotive industry, which ones do nothing for you and why?

For me, I'd have to say the WRX/STI. I've never liked the looks, engine, or the shifter/clutches of most of the generations, and I especially hate the people that drive them. I get that they have Subaru's "famous" all-wheel drive system, as well as their capabilities and modification potential, but all I see when I look at a WRX/STI is some stupid kid vaping. I find the Civic Si/R or Golf GTI/R to just be more appealing.

The MK4 Supra is one for me as well. The R35 as well.

I definitely agree on the WRX/STI thing. They're interesting cars and probably fun to drive, but for whatever reason, I've never said to myself, "I'd like to own one of these". I generally don't have much interest in hypercars overall given the cost and availability. More specifically, I think I'm starting to grow tired of McLarens. The current cars are basically tweaked versions of the same underlying vehicle. Once you're seen one, you've seen them all. They're cool to see on the street, but it literally makes no difference if one is a 570, 675, 720, blah blah blah. The GT tends to grab my attention as it looks the most different and interesting to me. The desire to own even a "cheap" 12c is pretty limited for me.

Oversized trucks with their lift kits. Almost seems to be more of a fad.

Bugatti Veyron/Chiron - any of the specials off of it. Could care less for the design. Are they impressive, yes of course! But I just don't find them appealing at all. If I had that cash flow, there are several other million-dollar hypers I'd rather get

Where I come from (Tennessee & majority of the south), those lifted trucks actually get used.

I live in S. FL now. Not a single truck or lifted jeep down here has seen a field or real trail to get used properly. Irks me to no end. Especially the ones with a lift kit and large wheels on skinny tires.

The other fad that bugs me now are the dually trucks w/the 18-wheeler wheels. Looks ridiculous, and serves no purpose.

But on the flipside, any V12 from the 456 onwards I absolutely love

Trucks have become a luxury car now. Its so weird, a decade or two ago, I only saw pick up trucks as work vehicles, now you can get a Ram 1500 that feels like the S-Class of trucks. If anything the only things most people haul in their trucks now are groceries and air

Yep, my wife's aunt and uncle are cattle ranchers and have been complaining for awhile that it is almost impossible to buy a basic stripped down work truck anymore.

It could be speaking to the current state of everyone's roads, everyone needing to offroad when on the actual road. A truck doesn't drive 1/10th as nicely as a real luxo barge with air suspension.

I'm not sure it's a fad. The dually has been around for a while and you NEED one if you plan to haul something like this around.

My feeling is most dually actually get used to tow stuff because I can't say I have seen a single pimped out dually.

May of you are just listing shit you hate not "beloved cars that do nothing for you".

For me, new Corvette and Jag E-Type.

On the WRX, you need to go back to when it launched and it was absolutely revolutionary for the price, nothing came even close.

Value wise definitely true, I've just never liked any Subaru at all even after driving them.

Jalopnik actually started an interesting discussion for once.

Historically I'd say Japanese cars. I never cared for the RX7, Supra, NSX, Miata, etc. Never did as a kid and still don't. Something about Japanese cars just isn't appealing to me emotionally. I'll throw in most supercars as well besides the more attainable and/or historic models like F40, Diablo, Countach, 360, F430, etc. Now there are so many supercars and supercar brands that the novelty wore off.

As a kid I was really into trucks and Jeeps but that changed when my dad got his first 3-series. I started valuing vehicles that are both "fun" to drive and well built and haven't looked back since. BMW was that brand for me and more recently Porsche fits the bill.

As a result; Audis, Mercs, and most modern BMWs don't do anything for me, most notably the crossovers. They are all objectively "nice" cars but are mostly soul-less to drive and incredibly common. 5-series, X3, X5, etc. are at every stop light and Costco parking lot. I'm not interested in spending that kind of coin to blend in with everybody else.

That just feels like too much money for an SUV to me. Crossovers are overwhelmingly used as family cars for going to the mall, road trips, etc. What's the point of a $100k+ gas guzzler for that? There are so many appealing sports cars and sport sedans for those prices. But I suppose if one has F you money then why not.
