One on Ebay, ridiculous pricing. They are always on the high end when they list stuff though.

I can't be the only one who thinks both of the options look cheap and/or chintzy.

My plan is to find a leather swatch as close to the coffee as I can then order a new standard plastic one to have upholstered. Maybe I'll just do black for simplicity and match to the console boot.

I've searched here and not seen anyone do this yet, but maybe it lights a fire for others.

Euroactive is always ripoff of the year - that part they are selling is still expensive but you can get it for $250 less just about everywhere - $700 https://www.bmwpartsdirect.com/oem-p...10-61319475056

I have recently learnt that the crystal knob is designed by Swarovski. I had always wondered why the knob looked like a piece of jewelry. My wife loves it. It's her daily. That is all I care.

ORLY? It's been marketed as BMW Crafted Clarity glass since debuting in the X5, X6, X7 and 8 Series.

Swarovski would have had their brand etched into the design if it was designed by them as part of the agreement and marketing - like Offerfors in Volvos. Unfortunately the Internet is filled with alternative facts.

I'm inclined to agree. If it was really Swarovski, it would have been plastered all over. Like the Swarovski crystals in the Mercedes headlight.

I just hope it's not really glass. Or if it is, it's something like Gorilla Glass and extra durable. My wife wanted it too. I sorta worry how fragile it is what with nails and jewelry possibly rubbing against it all the time.

Yeah. I've worried about the same thing. Although, I've smacked it accidentally a few times with a metal drink container and haven't seen any damage so far. I've already put 17.5K on the vehicle since taking delivery 1 year and 3 weeks ago. However, I won't be surprised if it does get damaged when we can start traveling again. I'll be taking some really long road trips back to my old stomping grounds in Montana and Wyoming.

Time will tell.

I'd like to do the exact opposite. Mine came with the crystal knob and I find it tacky. I'd love to switch for something more understated, but I understand it's a big job.

Here is a link to a huge post about retrofitting the shift knob.
https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1672762

I did mine and love the results, none sun reflections, no finger tips showing, you can get an OEM at any dealer between $600 - $700 USD
You will need to code some things in order to get the inner "X" illuminated, there's plenty of info on the link I mentioned.

Good luck
