"bad take", that is hilarious. I guess it is hard for some to believe that anyone wouldn't want a blatant distraction in their face while driving. I don't talk on a phone while driving, don't need media selections, don't care about rpms, water temp., oil pressure, etc. and have been driving long enough to know how fast I'm going without a windshield Gameboy projection.
I love high tech gadgets but have learned that I don't need this one.

I didn't take one and you obviously cared enough to respond, LOL.
No one is pushing anything on you, have a ball with your HUD if that is what you like but I really doubt if you are in a position to speak for "most people".

I tought it only showed some simpel arrows.

You might fancy sharing which options I should enable to get the same in my IDrive ?
Handy for the co-passenger to help navigate
As others already mentioned, if you have the map set up for split screen...you can select several things to appear next to the map. Yes, you can select "arrow"...but if you have a destination entered into iDrive navigation...when you get to junctions or turns...the small screen that shows the arrow will give more detail. Its the same details you see in the HUD when you have a destination entered.

The video below shows an example with an older version of iDrive...but it would be similar for the newer version:

Fighter pilots use a HUD (often on their helmet visor, but the same idea) for a reason...it gives you all of the relevant information without having to look away from the road. Now, lots of people don't look at the road like they should.

I much prefer the HUD, and as the versions have evolved, the newer ones have become more useful along with the color, make things easier to discern.

To each his own. Most people that try it, like it.

FWIW, I fall into the category of "most people" (i.e. most by count of those who have responded in this thread) who find HUD extremely valuable and would not buy a BMW without it.

First time using HUD in my X5 45e and love it. I do not look anymore to the cockpit display. I think it is a nice tool, but I am sure a few people might not like it. Younger generations are getting used to these multiples screens.

I had the opportunity to use it before as I took my mother in law BMW series 5 and seemed pretty cool, but now I think it is a key improvement. Not only for speed, but also directions using navigation (even if in a few cases I look to the screen in the middle of the car).

Thanks I tested it out yesterday and indeed it works like a charm.
Next time I might need to test something

Also thanks for the tip X5 45e

Do you notice that the Heads Up Display is completely useless in the G05 if you are wearing polarized lenses yet that was not the case in the F15?

Anyone find a "fix" to this within the settings or know what the issue is between the two cars?

Thanks in advance.....
I just discovered a non-sunglasses fix to the "hard to see HUD with polarized sunglasses" problem. I was noticing that my new X5 45e windshield seemed to be transmitting more sun heat than previous cars. (Never have owned a BMW before.) I had a Nano-ceramic film (Solar Gard XenithIR 80)applied today to address the thermal problem. When I picked up the car and drove it home wearing my regular polarized sunglasses - I COULD EASILY SEE THE HUD. No more tilting my head slightly to see the HUD, something I had found myself doing on a regular basis.

Two problems solved and probably less expensive than a new set of non-polarized sunglasses!

Says guy with the M50i and Z06 Vette. Come on man.....who you crapping?? Pretty sure you care about the water temp and oil pressure.

Who needs a stupid navigation screen? We have maps we can buy at any gas station!

Yes. But I had the same with the HUD in my G11, F15 and G32. It is not different in the G05.

I wear non polarized sunglasses in my car.

Without the "most people" aspect, BMW most likely couldn't justify the cost of RND, manufacturing, etc. to offer this option to begin with.
