2022 X5 45e Charging port issue
Good morning - wanted to share a current situation that has happened with my 2022 x5 45e.
The car is right at a year old with about 14K miles. One morning I went to unplug the charger for the car and it would not remove. I worked all the solutions with my dealership to attempt to get it unplugged with no luck. They had to place my car on "skates" to get it out of my garage and off it went to the dealership with the charger still plugged in and removed from my wall. That was over a month ago - my dealership said that this was the first time they have seen this happen. The dealership had been great and are covering under warranty but continue to struggle with getting the necessary parts to repair. Curious if anyone else has seen this? Should I be worried about the car more globally? Note - I did not use a BMW branded charger which I did agree to buy one from them moving forward. Thanks Matt |

If the dealer is ordering "necessary parts," that suggests they've figured it out, no? Have you been using car in the meantime? With the same charger?
The only time this has happened with my 2022 is when I tried to remove the charger without unlocking the car first. |

you didn’t mention it, but i assume you unlocked the vehicle before trying to remove the connector?

The manual suggests a mechanism to release that lock pin. If it failed, as happened to you, that's a warranty issue. |

Yes to the two comment above. the plug is industry standard, SAE J1772. Doesn't matter who makes the box on the other end of the cable. Don't buy a BMW EVSE because of this.

I have not had that issue with my 45e, but did on my i3. On that, the guide for the locking pin, under some temperature, moisture conditions could jam the pin so it couldn't retract when it should. Their solution was to slightly ream out the hole. The newer ones likely had that hole slightly larger from the vendor, but I don't know that for sure. FWIW, I found that an occasional spritz of WD40 just made the whole thing work a bit better.

I am having the opposite problem. The car charged last night without incident, but when I returned from errands and tried to plug it in, it would not latch and I get an error message in the app ("Charging not started. Check power supply and repeat the plug in," both of which I have done several times). Initially I thought it might be ice or snow packed in around the collar of the plug/receptacle, but the problem persists after clearing the flecks of snow I saw.
It's cold as hell, but not any colder than the last few days so I don't think that's the issue. I'll dig out the level one charger that came with the car to see if it snaps into place. And hunt around for the key to the L2 charger box lol |
