When are the LED lights on steering wheel, that are part of Assistant Package, expected to come on? I’ve tried Assisted Driving Mode but never seen these illuminate. This is on a one week old car and my previous BMW did not have it. Just wondering if I need to take it to the dealer or the system works differently than what I think 🤔

They come on to warn you to put your hands back on steering wheel when using assisted driving.

You can have them on or off:
APPS MENU - DRIVING SETTINGS- DRIVER ASSISTANCE- FEEDBACK VIA STEERING WHEEL - LIGHTING ELEMENTS - SELECT THE DESIRED SETTING

Only when hands free driving is available at certified highways and certain states and countries. You have to check if your location applies. If not, the system is used only for traffic jam assisted driving.

While driving in assisted driving mode, take your hands off the wheel for a while and you'll see them light up in yellow. Be careful while doing that of course.

As previously stated…..only when using assist plus(hands free) when it’s available on limited access highways.
Edit: When Driving Assistance Pro is active with or without Assist Plus the steering wheel lights will caution the driver to put hands on the wheel and pay attention.

When I have the assisted driving activated and I'm on a highway I'll get an alert that assisted driving is ready, the lights turn green and I can drive hands free.

I think I need to try that again. I’ve seen the HUD display yellow steering and I immediately held the steering. Did not notice if the lights also came on or if I was too quick to take over for it to even light up.

Haven’t been on highway yet on this car 🙂. But then, I’m in Australia and I don’t think the Highway Assisted Driving is available here. 😢

When you use Traffic Jam assistant mode; the steering wheel will light up green. This is Pre-LCI, probably the same for LCI.

If you have the Parking Assistance Package, the steering wheel LEDs will also light up green when the vehicle is executing a saved/stored parking maneuver. That's another way to confirm if the lights are operable.

When in stop/go traffic put the assisted driving on and the car moves when the traffic moves and stops when it stops, works on all roads.

Just checked mine and no lights on steering wheel when using traffic jam assist.

The green lights come on when using Cruise Mode 3/Assisted Driving Plus/Extended Traffic Jam Assistant/Highway Assistant. Those are the different name for the hands-free cruise mode.

Last night when driving, I did see the lights flash yellow once. So the connections seem to be fine. Will have to see if I ever get green lights to come on. Still need to try the recorded path to check that.

Drive the car with assisted driving on, take your hands off wheel and after a period of time the lights on wheel will flash amber and if you don't touch the wheel red and then it disconnects. Regarding green I haven't been looking for it and not an issue for me as instrument panel shows system is operating.
