That is a disaster
Who was like yep, looks perfect, put it in production Reminds me of the dash you get on an unlock car in need for speed 20 years ago where you know the game designers spent all of 15 minutes creating it Meanwhile Audi's like hold my beer |

And whilst looking at that you run into the back of the car ahead which has just stopped.
No this is too much detail in the wrong place, an ergonomic disaster. If you you look at hardware in general (not just cars) and look at the difference between consumer and professional versions you will see that professional is geared up for function alone, it is there to get its particular job done. The approach to consumer hardware is different where it seems to have lots of flashing lights, bling, fiddly controls and a wow factor to appeal to people who don't know. This dashboard to me seems to be like that to me. |

Now this would look even cooler, with thicker color bands and 3D first person view GPS (8 Series Concept). Constant over the air updates will probably evolve towards this design.

"...Over-the-Air (OTA) updates for map data up to 4 times annually are also included" For those who are unsatisfied with the launch layout and who actually have standing as an affected or potentially impacted consumer, reach out to BMW and voice your concerns. That seems like a much more constructive use of your time than complaining on here. My .02

Note how the screen image doesn't even bleed to the edge of the enclosure... instead it seems to have its own unique shape that doesn't even match the shape of the enclosure with an ugly misshapen black section around it.
Compare this to the Audi Virtual Cockpit where the screen image bleeds all the way to the edge of the plastic enclosure. In practice this likely means Audi has screen pixels that are obscured by the enclosure - a little bit more $$ spent to make the interior look better. :-/ Last edited by 2001S15; 10-15-2018 at 09:53 AM.. |

BMW's brakes are superior, and M cars are much better sports cars than any Audi, but now that BMW is ditching manuals, I don't see any reason to get, say, an M340i or 540i over and S4 or A6.

I've used the Audi Virtual Cockpit. Does it look cool? Sure. It's designed to "wow" people, to impress them on a 20 minute test drive. In reality, having that giant, bright map spinning around in front of your face while you're driving is a distraction at best, and downright disorienting at worst. BMW could've easily mimicked the Audi system, but chose not to. BMW's implementation is less flashy, but much cleaner. Anyway, if you like the "gee whiz wow" factor of the Audi system, good for you. Get yours soon though, so you have a year or so with it, because no later than the end of 2020, the Google Maps overlay won't work anymore on any 2018 and older Audi's. |

The digital cluster in my Golf looks better than that. Bit of a disappointment.

Thanks for the video Jay. I love this thread and the passionate arguments both ways. BMW owners are great and I’m guessing this debate will go on for a long time.

Man, Jay, I really appreciate you posting these vids and answering questions. So helpful. I don't know if you can arrange delivery on the other coast, but I'll definitely keep you in mind for my next Bimmer. (next few months?)
