Based on everyone's responses, it does seem that this is quite "normal ".
I don't think I want to make that much of a big deal and go that far.

Any car not ordered or sold on a dealer lot is fair game for a test drive. But really its a moot point, any car that has not been titled before qualifies as "new" regardless of mileage. So the manager's demo car, the test drive car, or a car in the loaner fleet can be sold as a "new" car. In some cases the factory warranty may have already started because of a mileage threshold that has been crossed. Despite the mileage or warranty status on those cars the advantages is that they qualify for new car incentives and discounts, but unfortunately it doesn't mean you are going to get a significantly better price because of the mileage on them.
Almost al true. Loaner cars are punched as sold. Those will be sold as used cars because they are titled to the dealer and have regular plates.

Mine had about 25. I ordered it but the dealer allowed someone a test drive of it before I took delivery (they asked first, so it wasn't like they tried to hide it or do it without my permission)

Got one for ya! You do realize almost every car is set up on the Dyno at the factory and ran up to top speed and top RPM while connected to OBD and other sensors to quality check the car and verify emissions? Yes It's true! I have toured the factory in SC. And I was told 4-7 miles happen on the Dyno alone.

You do realize most cars get Dyno tested at factory?

Yep, someone did mention dyno testing

Yeah, I toured the Munich plant and in addition to the dyno, they drove cars in batches of 4-5 to the test track. You can watch them drive them right out of the factory over to the test "gleis" & back.

Here it is, Gate #3 ("tor 3"), just a few blocks north of the Welt & across the street:

I actually just watched a show called Mega Transports maybe on the Discovery Channel......they basically showed how the ship got loaded in Germany and show it's journey to the ports. Those ships literally can fit like 8,000 cars on them and a lot of times they do have to juggle cars around a lot. Was really interesting to watch as it seemed there were a lot of BMW's on this particular ship......

My X6 came with 12 miles. It was a custom build.
My 2018 M4, which was a custom build also, had 4 miles when I took delivery of it.
European delivery of ///M cars, from Regensburg at least has always been 1 mile with the GPS still showing Regensburg despite the car being delivered in Munich: I've had this 4 times (all Ind Mfr cars):

As mentioned, the X cars are driven out of the factory onto dynos, some are selected for further checks, and they're also driven up onto the trains. I guess that maybe puts miles on them but, as mentioned, that doesn't seem to have been the historical case for me with German-made cars.

Thank for sharing this info.
I just hope nobody abused my X6 during those 12 miles.
This is not a lease and I plan on keeping my X6 for AT LEAST 5 years.

Thanks again!

I thought LC doesn't even work until you perform the 1200 break in service.

That's always been a rumor with M cars, but for every one I've bought for the last 10 years that's never been the case ... I don't have my X5M yet so I can't speak for it, but I've read you need to drive it for 30 mine before LC can be activated.

The OM states vehicle needs to be driven for 6 miles to warm up the engine before the use of LC.

They do the same in Spartanburg. Out the back and give it a shake down.

I picked up my 2022 X5 M50i in September. It had all the plastic on it still. When I asked how many miles it had, the sales rep told me 15 after it needed to be fueled up. When I bought my 2009 X6 it was in the show room. It had .9 miles on it and that's when I new it was meant to be. I've always been lucky with most of my cars. This is the first car that had so many miles on it

Certainly not every vehicle is taken on the test track for a test ride. They roll off the assembly line like one vehicle every minute. They would never have the time to perform a test ride of each vehicle.

In the 2nd video, watch how the guy goes over and scans the barcode through the windshield. He's checking to make sure it's THE correct vehicle for a test ride. I believe it's like one car out of say 50 of the same model to be spot checked for a QC ride.
Otherwise they would never get any vehicles onto the train or truck for transport. Talk about a bottleneck.
