Assisted Driving Mode ROCKS!

I just drove 500mi on the highway and used ADM the entire way. It was amazing. Tracked like it was on rails. I just kept a couple fingers on the wheel. Really nice tech.

Good to hear. How do you have the safety features configured?

I agree! We did a 200 mile trip and used it the whole time on the freeway. Worked perfectly! The slight turns and bends in the road were zero problem for the system.

Yep. It's worth it. I found that I was less tired when arriving at my destination after 400-600 miles on the road. It's a winner.

Completely agree. It makes driving so much less stressful, especially in traffic. I use it daily on my commute. Used it a few times on long road trips and it's amazing.

Agreed! I have gone on several road trips in this X5, and it really cuts down on fatigue. I think it's a must have option for this vehicle... yet my local dealership stocks almost none of them with it.

Did you have a bad experience?

This feature certainly isn't a set-it-and-forget-it. It needs intervention from time to time. In my experience it's pretty conservative.. it hands over control to me when there are funky lane markings or something is not straightforward. But driving out to west Texas at 85 mph was a dream with this feature set.

Straight roads are ok but any kind of deviations in the markings on the road can lead to big trouble for all in the vehicle. Yes its happened to us, we went on two wheels, be careful.

Sounds like you weren't paying attention. These systems are not autonomous, they are assistance not full on self-driving.

I used it for a couple of hours on my 2200 mile trip. Tracked perfectly. I was on i95 doing 85mph and all I had to do was to drum on the steering wheel with the music to let it know I was alive. No ping ponging at all and it would pass very smoothly just using the turn signal. I took the time to experiment with its abilities and different road surfaces. White sun bleached highways down south with white markers had the system still track accurately but I didn’t trust it as much. Black asphalt was a no brainer and the system was rock solid. Even exits didn’t bother the tracking and the X5 kept on its current course. All these systems are only as good as the markers on the road so there will always be limitations. Because of these limitations, didn’t use it in temporary construction zones. The system is miles more advanced than the simple lane keeping assistance that most new vehicles have. It certainly is level 2 autonomous and drives itself with the driver monitoring it. My issue is I am at a cross road of how much I actually need my car to drive itself. I still have to monitor the system so it’s not like I can take my eyes off the road anyway so I might as well drive. It does relieve some fatigue on long trips of open highways. I drove 1100 miles non stop in one day. That’s hardcore and I was glad I could use the system a little bit but it’s not like I had to have it to pound miles. The contour massaging seats were far more vital.
I am a “driver” and never want to feel like I am not in total control so my personality will never use it a lot.

I haven't had a chance to go a long distance in the 50i but I have used the system on my Merc S on long interstate drives and it is amazing how much it reduces fatigue. I wouldn't have believed it if I had not experienced it several times. Worth every penny for a long distance driver.
