Question Recommendations for auto insurance?

Outside of the big names, does anyone have any recommendations for auto insurance? I know what all the big ones (Allstate, Geico, State Farm, Liberty Mutual, Progressive, etc..) will charge me, I'm wondering if anyone knows of any, more obscure, companies that offer good coverage at fair/better rates?

I've had my time with several of the big names at this point and have yet to have a good experience. Figure it's time to try something new if possible.

Those are the more expensive options, have you tried Mercury? Also you can use the same insurance company for your home as you do for Auto and get a multi policy discount. If you have an active connected drive subscription there's also a discount for that.

Also in for some recommendations. Specifically any insurers who provided stated value/agreed-upon value policies.

You will only get agreed/ state value on a classic car.

Keep away from stated value. Claim will be settled at actual cash value and depreciation would be deducted.

You want agreed value for a classic car. The agreed value is what is paid in the event of a total loss....and the carrier agrees to it in advance.

Mercury seems like a load of crap that just directs you to other providers, any other suggestions?

I'm pretty sure Mercury is an actual insurance company as I have my car and house with them, not sure why they would refer you to the competition. They were probably referring you to an independent agent which I also use.

I would stick with the major brands. You might save money with the smaller companies but when you need to make a claim that is when the difference will show. The only time I might go with mercury or others is if you do not have a clean driving record.

I filled out the quote info and then it directed me to other companies as suggestions, didn't even offer a quote.

My record is ok, one lifetime accident, no tickets. My rate with Allstate is just a bit much I think because I'm a young (26), single male. Current policy period is up so I figured I'd shop around but have been very surprised with other company's quotes. Most are 20%-30% more than Allstate. Liberty Mutual quoted me at $500/mo LOL

Check out ANPAC Insurance (American National)

They have a Classic/exotic car coverage policy that lets you work on Agreed value
http://www.anpac.com/classic-car-insurance/

I've been with them for about 10 years or so for both Auto and Homeowners insurance. We get good rates and service from them.

Yeah, or its value. Something that doesn't rely on an arbitrary formula.

That's what I've been hearing but I read on Rennlist about some Porsche people who have these policies. On what models I don't know, but the posts were in the context of new vehicles.

AAA is worth a look. (Same folks that do the roadside assistance.) I ended up with more coverage for less money.

Same here. If you get a quote ask for dividend policy too. You'll pay out more up front but get 20% back on auto at the end of the policy year. Cheaper than the normal policy.

I was talking to an independent agent the other day. He told me something that makes perfect sense. I have decades of no claim history. If you're a good risk you should never go with someone who's always advertising. You spend ad money to get more clients. To get more clients you have to take worse risks. When you take worse risks you charge more. I'm with Travelers now. Saved a bunch.

Garage List
USAA is a big one but pretty good. My rates are lower than anywhere else I can find and they also typically send me a check back at the end of the year if their claims were lower than they thought. They aren't as good as they used to be but still a good company. You have to be a veteran or related to a veteran to get in.

Thanks for the tip, best rate so far has been with them, still comparable to Allstate though (within $5 actually). I'll contact them and see if they can do anything else with the rate.

If they are collectible then I could get my underwriters to agree. For example I think a 1m might be acceptable, A 911R would absolutely be acceptable. We got a mid 90's 911 speedster for agreed value.

But they will need to be used as collector cars. Limited use, garaged, have a second car to daily, etc.

I run a body shop and deal with insurance companies all day long. For the most part they all suck and are only looking out for themselves. There is a new company called PURE, they seem to be really good. Don't know about premiums but it might be worth a look.

As pointed out here virtually everyone is looking for the cheapest option which leads to everyone trying their best to cut their costs with customer experience getting lowered.

I doubt Pure will fit the "cheapest option" but I could see the experience being better if you are willing to pay for it -

From PURE -

Doesn't strike me as "we are the cheapest option".

Oh, I fully agree and I deal with a lot of very high end cars/customers. But you do get what you pay for. Commercially advertised insurance companies for the most part are blood suckers. They will pay for the shittiest aftermarket/used parts if they are out there. That being said with cars such as the M2 there won't be much in the way of aftermarket available. But one way they get the rates so low is lack of proper coverage

Considering how I've tried the big name brands at high premiums and had absolute shit experiences with them, I don't really think this is relevant.

It's very clear that premium cost is NOT correlated with good service in the insurance industry, especially when dealing with auto insurance.
