Engine Oil In The Intake Tube?
So today I was installing new drop in K&N engine air filters and removing the charcoal engine filters and noticed some thing in the passenger intake tube. See pics below:
In the passenger side I noticed quite a bit of engine oil coating the tube inside. Is this a issue? turbo blow back? Never seen this before or know much about this phenomena |

Well, crap.
This is a known common problem with OEM intake systems. Commonly, the PCV system is vented to the intakes. This results in oil vapor in the intake system. What you see is the results. This is the reason for "catch can" systems in many cars. Looks like ours needs one too. DAMMIT. I found one for the F10. Sigh. https://burgertuning.com/products/bm...u-bmw-m-engine Shawn |

Replacing motors and cleaning valves at 100,000 miles are something they are absolutely OVERJOYED to do. So here's both Road and Track and Engineering Explained's position on it... https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cul...tch-can-works/ Honda makes this part of the engine design from the factory: http://honda.automotive-manuals.com/...711KCAT00.HTML We had to get them for tuned GT-R's because there was so much oil in the intake stream it would mess with the Air/Fuel ratio and tuning because of the ingested oil vapor. If you don't run much at wide open throttle and you don't care much about dirty valves at 100,000 miles, it isn't a concern. Honestly. Some people, it is. Shawn |

I wish someone would make an oil catch can or two for this car, but probably haven't because there's just no room under the hood for more hardware. Any idea how big/expensive of a job it is to clean the valves?
