X5 50e 2024 Transfer Box Backorder

Hi,

My 50e 2024 has a bad transfer case and my dealership ordered it two months ago. However, they still can't provide any ETA after two months.

Is there any way for me to reach out to BMW Germany to understand when it can be in stock?

Or is there a way to speed it up?

I find it hard to believe that they ordered it two months ago and haven’t received it yet. I had a transfer case replaced in December on my 45E and the part arrived 2 days after ordering it. They are building cars and must have a lathe number of these in stock

Yeah hard to trust them. They told me the order number and the screenshot of their internal system, which shows the order date is earlier last December.

Would you mind sharing your order date and transfer case part SKU/number?

I’ll have a look and see if I kept the paperwork and get back to you.

Since yours arrived in 2 days, it is highly unlikely it came from Germany. Parts from Germany almost always take a long time to arrive. My experience waiting for a soft top module for my Z4 from Germany was 2 months. 50e parts also seem scarce. They certainly do not pull from production inventory to fulfill warranty claims.

That’s exactly my point. Why would they come from Germany when the factory is in the USand with all the production delays at rhe moment they should have been able ro source one from the factory - assuming they didn’t change specs from pre to LCI 🤷‍♂️

It is not possible, there is no extra stock to pull from. They don't keep an inventory of parts. The factory is JIT so everything is allocated. BMW has a terrible parts system but not being able to pull it from the factory is not part of that. They have various warehouses throughout the country what holds many of the spare parts but not all.

Any ways for me to speed up this process? Or the only thing I can do it waiting

I thought the latest understanding the production delays are not due to technical reasons, but rather due to supply chain shortages.

Coming from Germany to me is not the reason either. To my understanding they have direct charter flight three or more times a week into GSP (Greenville Spartanburg).

I assume they indeed have shortages of components.

I have seen some instances where people complained to BMWNA and had them open a case on the long wait. Supposedly they eventually flagged the part request as priority and it was early. Whether that really happened or they just told the people that I do not know.
