Exterior Mirror Housing / Support Replacement?

You can imagine my shock when on my commute this morning a grown mallard duck flew right into my 2024 X5M's passenger exterior mirror. I was doing 45mph, the duck was probably doing 20+. The duck didn't make it, but neither did the mirror cover. Yes, those are feathers sticking out of the lower leading edge. The mirror glass was not disturbed, nor was the camera or blind spot monitor. It still folds properly upon locking and there was no new/extra wind noise at highway speed.

I've found the top portion of the cover available online (the piece that often gets changed out for carbon fiber-look), but I can't seem to find the lower portion where I have damage - the piece that covers the fixed support arm and the triangle on the door glass. Does this only come with the purchase of a full wing mirror?

Anyone ever replaced the whole thing before as a DIY? I'm not afraid of this level of work, but a guide is always helpful when you don't know what's a pry/pull and what has a hidden screw. Does it come painted? X5M is always gloss black on this lower portion, so I'm hopeful here...

Sorry, I can't answer the question, but your story reminded me of an encounter I had with some kind of medium size bird on the interstate about 20 yrs ago. The vehicle I was driving at speed had a metal 18" antenna...a fricking bird flew into the antenna and split the bird in 1/2. Yes, bird feathers and guts all over the windshield. Straight out of a horror movie...

You'll want to do a search of the forum, I recall reading a post not that long ago where someone did in fact replace the entire mirror assembly and I think they explained how to remove it.

Here is a video of a guy replacing the entire mirror on a 2019 X6 .. .. somehow it doesn't look like a 2019 but anyhow.. ..

Had a friend damaged their side mirror and had to replace it. Was about $2k apparently!
