BMW Servie overnight test drive 2023 bmw x5 45e

My brand new 2023 X5 45e as part of week 9 production delivered and with in 1 to 2 weeks it started giving me drive train malfunction error and shuts down for 20 mins and again it starts back.
I towed it to dealer and dealer contacted bmw and they did reset the battery and charged overnight and today the dealer texted me that as bmw recommended to do a extended overnight test drive to see any errors re-occurring. I check with dealer and asked how many miles are you going to put on my brand new car not even drove 100 miles and he confirmed me that 50-100 miles and only with my approval.

I need your inputs and suggestions and after bmw recommendations of resetting the battery, today as per the dealer diagnosis the errors didn’t came.

I mean, you want it fixed, don't you? Can't ask them to fix it and then tell them not to test the fix. I wouldn't hesitate giving the ok

If you are concerned, offer to be present (as a passenger or driver) during the test drives?

I agree with the above, let them do whatever they need to do in order to try and track down the problem and fix it. Sounds like the opened a TSARA case which means a BMW engineer is involved so they will be taking their direction from what him/her.

Let us know how things turn out.

Hopefuly you got a loaner,....so, you should feel free to rack up as many miles as you need to run your errands, etc. They don't limit you on mileage for the loaner,...so, don't limit them on driving yours in trying to determine the issue!

I'm sure the issue will pop up within 100 miles or so,...so, why even worry about it.

BMW has $BILLION$,...let 'em fix your new vehicle!

Oh! Did I mention that one of my favorite words is "Warranty"?

Update — dealer texted me today to pickup the car as they fixed all the error cash desk after resetting the battery as per bmw.
I went to pickup today and they can’t start the car as it is throwing the drivetrain malfunction error. They again took the car into service to check it tomorrow.
I’m totally disappointed as this is my first bmw and myself and family were so excited when we took the car and now disappointed.

I did raise a case last week and I have escalated and they assigned a case manager.
I’m not feeling to safe drive this car and it may die anytime on me.

How a repurchase will work and what are my options? Please advise.

Start by looking at the Lemon Law requirements on your state. It is generally easiest when you meet those requirements since they will likely rather do a repurchase than have the vehicle be a lemon. Another thing that really helps the process is to have you Service Manager/Director (not the service advisor) be on your side and fighting for a repurchase should it be needed.

At this point I would think it will be too early for either a Lemon Law action or a repurchase but make sure you are keeping records of the dates it was in and what they did and the outcome.

Ok, thanks for the details.

I purchased the vehicle from Maryland and repair is happening at Atlanta,GA. Which state lemon law i should be using in case if they won’t repair with in the time period.

Should I talk to the service manager or director on repurchasing that vehcicle? I paid some cash and went for bmw financial for auto loan, how to get the cash which I paid to dealer in Maryland as I’m presently working with Atalanta dealer.

Need suggestions and guidance.

Appreciate all your help.

they say you don't want to mention "lemon", and if you decide to go that route, there's the lemon law lawyer who'll want compensation. rather, talk with your BMW case manager about them buying the vehicle back from you. note the process may take several months as i recall a couple guys going through it. may wanna try and search the forum for their threads

I won’t use lemon law and I’m only asking to repurchase as its brand new and not safe to drive and completely stopping on the busy road.

I wasn't saying you would use it but rather have the vehicle meet the conditions and let them know it does as some incentive for them to repurchase.

Sorry to hear your story. IMHO, you should at least let the dealer know if they do not make things right, they will be in big trouble.

45e issues

Maybe a 50e swap will pique the dealer's/BMW's interest?

Exact same problem happening with mine. There are scattered posts here about it. Was basically told don't trust the forums by the dealer guys, haha, but I'm finding more answers here than what they can tell me at the moment. Is there a way to escalate for a loaner? Basically told there are none due to the cutting of the fleet of loaner cars by 2/3 since the pandemic. I've only been given a car rental for now for max 2 days. I could just be one of the few unlucky ones out there with this new drivetrain/power issue, but wonder if it's more widespread.

Try again for loaner, at least you drive the bmw. Did you raise the case with bmw ? Is your case manager assigned? Convince the service advisor that you need loaner at any cost by requesting and pointing the issues and your disappointment.
My issue is still going on and they are still trying to fix it.

TurtleBoy thank you, but i dont like to take the car back and drive. MY carfax gonna show the repairs and this issue may come back in future and i feel very sad that a brand new car in repairs and not confident to drive.

I'm asking bmw to replace it, but no approval yet from bmw or no update from bmw case manager.
