Not odd at all, actually common. It all depends on when it was built,. what batches had a problem, etc. They often start with a general pool and then whittle it down based on supply information, production records and quality testing.

80K cars being recalled.
Recalls start with the NHTSA being notified which was done on 2/12. The letter referenced in the article is NHTSA's acknowledgement of receipt.

yep, but bmwusa's website didnt start showing it till yesterday or today.
looks like its all of the LCI X7s from July 2022-Oct 2023. 30K units

and all of the X5s from im guessing start of LCI production till mid october.

their estimated failure rate is 1% so 800 out of the 80K total will fail.

The recall is not on all units but rather specific ones depending on production date and the part used. For the X5 there are only a little over 20k being recalled but almost double were sold. Those affected will receive a recall notice in April.

Wk 1 build 2024, no recall on either RoW or US site for a X5 M60.

PS last time I checked the RoW BMW site was due to the missing RAM module in my M4 vert and gave me PTSD back to the COVID build days.

My week 26 June build X5 M60i is affected. Has anyone contacted their dealer to schedule repair?

They won't do anything at this point since the recall has not been announced to owners. BMW is currently scheduled to send out the letters on April 5th. Once an owner receives them they can contact a dealer to have them swapped out.

My May 19th, 2023 build X5 B58 is affected along with a fuel module that needs to be reprogrammed under the technical improvement program, the code for that is 0016840200. Told my SA I'll do it all with one visit.

Any idea if this is affecting the production line for vehicles scheduled soon or actually in production now?

My 50e is affected. It was produced in either late May or early June 2023.

No, the latest date of production for an included X5 was 10/18/23.

My '24 M60i, built in early April 2023 is affected. It sounds like the remedy will be available right around the same time as my first scheduled oil change. Hopefully I can get both done at the same time.

when was your car produced? the recall only covers up to about mid/late october. assuming they revised the part at that point.

I could've sworn it was built in mid-August. I took delivery at the PCD at the end of October.

I used to be able to look up the build date via the debug console in Safari, but I cannot seem to find the date via that method.

Any suggestions on how I can find the actual build date, post retail status?

Look at your door jamb label or use a VIN decoder to get it.

Since yours has lived at the dealer maybe they already replaced the brakes while it was there.

Sorry, couldn't resist.
