I am trying to decide to delete the resonator and add an X pipe while also replacing the rear muffler (msport exhaust, whatever it means) on my M50i or just keep the resonator and work on the rear section only.

My aim is not to get any raspy high-pitched sounds due to deleting the resonator. If it is really freeing up the exhaust according to your butt-dyno, then I may go with some bottle shape free flow mufflers to replace the resonator to get rid of the rasp. If a delete is not making too much of a difference then I may leave it alone and modify the rear muffler.

Cheers.
I tried an h-pipe first. To me there was a noticeable low end power gain but it made the exhaust waaaay too quiet, quieter than stock imo. Then I was deciding between straight pipes and x pipe. I ended up doing straight pipe as I was really going for sound, didn't wanna do x pipe then change my mind again. Straight pipe added a really good mid range sound and crazy cold start. There is definitely a slight loss in low end power with the straight pipes. In hind sight, I might have preferred x pipe though I have no idea about power. With the x pipe I would have gotten more top end sound than compared to the straight pipes mid range from what I've read.

I didn't experiment with any muffler changes. Hope this helps.

Lookimg to do this, but not going the h-pipe route.
Debating straight pipe or x-pipe

2019 xdrive50i (not m50i)

Any recommendations?

Went with Straight Pipe earlier today, a whole whopping $115 to cut out the center res and replace with straight pipe

Sounds nicer, but not as aggressive as I would have wanted it to be...
you definitely hear more pops when taking off

I've booked my X6 M50i to have straight pipes fitted next weekend.

Have seen people say they have lost power? Is it noticeable loss

Yes, it's in the pre-heating menu or something like that. You need to check mark it.

Yes just two straight through pipes, wasn't easy job BMW pipes awkward but only cost £300 to do, not a obnoxious noise increase but I really rumble and roar suits the style of car, I wasn't aiming for stupidly loud but i have defiantly gained a much louder growl/rumble tone that suits the M50i will take pics and post tomorrow

For those that did not permanently open flaps with the resonator delete- How is the sound with valves closed in comfort mode?

It is great on startup, but when driving tinny when you get on the throttle.

i tried with valves in AUTO and it sounded okay-ish, but nothing fancy or stand out... with valves OPEN and plugs disconnected, it sounds MUCH better on cold starts, it sounds nice-ish when stepping on the gas, so hire RPMs, it has burbles and cracks, but when driving normally, its not very noticeable.

keep in mind, i have my resonator cut out and replaced with straight pipe.

if you havent done the resonator delete yet, then I'd say it will be way less impressive
