Premium Package just for Head Up Display?
We have a new order in, still time to make changes I think and now I'm wondering if paying $1000 just for Head Up Display is worth it? Only other thing not included in $0 Convenience Package is Gesture Control which we don't care about. Head Up Display would be cool but wonder if we will just end up using Google Maps on our phone anyway, then it's just speed display? For $1000 I think we would pass. Any reason I'm missing to get it? Thank you.

I don't think I would get a vehicle without it now that I had it. Besides your current speed it will display information regarding the cruise, the speed limit, media selection, etc. I have not seen anyone that had the HUD regret getting it.

The HUD was one of the main reasons I choose the Premium package. Although the BMW one isn’t quite as good as the one I had in my previous Mazda CX-5 ride, it’s still useful having the current speed and speed limit displayed. Aside from the Navigation directions, it’s also good when changing audio sources as it displays them so you can scroll through them with the steering wheel control. You can also see the cruise control status when in use. If the HUD is an option, I’ll always get it.

It is about safety? Because all that information is available on other screens right, so for $1000 I'm buying the added safety of keeping eyes closer to road? Probably worth it I guess, just wish the Premium package had more I actually wanted.

As an experiment I got HUD on my last BMW. I found it terrific allowing to truly keep my eyes up, while being informed of route, speed & the like So, when I ordered my current car, it was a no-brainer to have that in spite of Gesture control in the package HUD is definitely useful & not a distraction. BTW, with Android Auto ( in software update 07/2020) Google Map directions in HUD Hope that helps!

Once you go HUD, you'll never go back. BMW continues to improve HUD info every generation.
When I drive a vehicle without one, I have to constantly look down to make sure I'm not speeding, haha

When I travel on a route I know has a history of traffic problems (or questionable traffic), I use Google Maps since it's traffic info is much more current than BMW's Directions show up in HUD. Only problems are that you lose the map in center of Instrument Cluster and sometimes you'll get two Google voices, one of which sounds like it came from Battlestar Galactica Hope that helps!

Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go set to 30mph and Assisted Driving mode on: Speed limit assist - active Steering assist (steering and lane control) - active Here's a photo where I was intentionally speeding. A SET indicator displays above HUD speed limit indicator (see enclosed image - testing speed camera notifications for forum members)

Guess i'm in the minority. Tried it the first few days I had the car and then shut it off. haven't tried it again in a year. Never had one, so never really saw the use. It's not like I have to look into the back seat to see any of that data. For $1,000 I would not get it.
Maybe i'll turn it on next time i'm in the car and play around with it. |

I LOVE my HUD! My distance vision is fine but I need readers. Because of that the dashboard is a little fuzzy. I can use readers while I drive and look over them but I find that distracting. Turns out a side benefit of the HUD is that I can perfectly read all of the HUD data without glasses! That alone is worth the price to me.

Why not?
Once you want to retrofit HUD you pay double or more and may lose warranty. |
