Coding to Lower Air Suspension?
Hi, I have a 2019 40i with Air Suspension, 22 inch rims. Somebody told me they can code it so it lowers by an inch. A few questions:
1. Has anybody done this? 2. Is it safe for the vehicle? 3. Does it just lower each of the 5 levels by an inch, or does it always keep it in low position? If it keeps it in one position, I assume I loose the ability to raise up and down like I can do now? 4. If it keeps in one position, how low can it go? Right now when you drive in sport it's in the second lowest level, can it get any lower? Thanks! |

But... why not just install a set of droplinks? You can install them yourself, have full control over how low you want to go, maintain all 5 levels of adjustment, and you can always return to stock by re-installing the original links? Too easy.

and why deal with the possibility of having to re-code if it gets wiped out (like from a software upgrade)?

I was able to lower mine with E-Sys. It wasn't particularly hard, I followed a guide for the 7 series but there were some minor differences on the g05/6 but nothing that would trip you up.
I was able to drop it by about an inch but I reverted it back to normal after a short drive - it didn't really improve the handling but did feel a bit harder on bumps. |

Hey folks,
1. I lowered my G05 by replacing the Ride-height sensor arms. This can lower the car a lot. 2. Then I further lower the X5 with the OEM control switch to the desired height 3. lock the Air system by holding the switch for 7 seconds and the car will stay low. Could this be an option for you? |

Also, do you think the mention in the manual of using this feature when towing is just because it can occasionally get in the way when unhitching? Other than that, I can't see the use. (I know that changing the level is turned off when towing, anyway, which is something I wish I could do on occasion.) |

Another question this thread brings to mind for me: on some other SUVs with air suspension, it moves down a level when at highway speeds, for the sake of slightly better fuel economy. I wonder why BMW decided not to offer this. Perhaps they were thinking of obstructions that could be in the road. Or maybe it depends on the vehicle and its exact aerodynamics whether there's a benefit.
