What seats are these?

I purchased this vehicle and am awaiting delivery. I can't figure out what seats it has. I've sat in all the the seating options over 7 different x5s and this is the first time seeing these. Oddly enough, they are by far the most comfortable ones I tried. Car has luxury seating option and multi contour. Any ideas?

These look like a multi contour seats with versana leather - notice there is no button to adjust a headrest and the back-side of the seats consist of a 2 parts - the upper half of the back articulates independently.

^^^ agree. The seat surface is leather. I think the vinyl version of this seat (multi contour) has black seat back

Next time…include the seat switch in the pic. That’s the easiest way to tell what seat you have.

If your seat switch is #3 then you have the multi-comfort seats which has approx 20-way adjustments (electrical):
  • 8-way upper & lower seat adjustments
  • 4-way lumbar adjustments
  • 2-way headrest adjustments
  • 2-way thigh extension
  • 2-way upper articulating back adjustment
  • 2-way side bolster adjustment

Yes, but not on the headrest itself and no way to move it forward/back, only up/down.

Regular sport seats allow to move it forward/back and there is a button on the headrest.

Head rest cushions can come forward from right and left edges - turns it into a wide U shape rather that flat…..

All the seats I've sat in had some sort of pattern on them. These are straight perforated. That's what threw me off. Can you post a pic of yours?

These look like the Vernasca variety I had in my M50i which were very comfortable for me at 6' 3" 235lbs. The Merino in my M60i are extremely nice and every bit as accomodating if not better as they should be with a 2K upcharge. The seats in the full boat X5/X6 M models are not kind to a person my size.

Yes, the multi-contour headrests will move forward and back. The problem, if one can call it a problem, is with that so many options it takes a few tries to find the right button. It can be especially tricky while you're trying to drive.

Once you get it right, save the setting. And never, ever let anyone else sit in your seat.

My reply was in response to the question you asked in your subject line and first sentences where you specifically asked what type of seats.

Since you know what type of seats they are...what is it that you're really asking or wanting to know?

You mention something about the perforations in the seats...that indicates that you have the ventilation feature. There should be buttons on the dash panel to turn the fans on/off.

If it is the type of leather the seats have...we would need a closer pic to be able to see the grain pattern. That would reveal if they are Vernasca, Nappa, or Merino leather...or the faux Sensatec (vinyl).

Or you can run your 17 digit VIN through one of the free VIN decoding sites (below) which will list the vehicles options, build date, int/ext colors, etc:

Plug in this car's VIN into a VIN decoder site and you will be able to see all the detailed options in the car. Or, you can check with the dealer to pull an original sticker for you.

I have these exact seats - mine are perforated but not ventilated. You can get them ventilated of course, but the perforations are not a differentiator.

I can’t tell what model year you have…but do you have the new Sensafin vegan leather seats? I believe that fabric is perforated.

EDIT: yep, the new Sensafin vegan leather is perforated. Or perhaps perforated (real leather) without ventilation is a European option. Or could it have come about after COVID and the international supply chain fiasco?

I have a 2020 G06, Vernasca MC seats.

This was the standard Vernasca design on pre-LCI MC seats over here for G05 and G06. If you had the upgraded leather, you got the quilted design, Vernasca you got the perforated.

If you zoom in you can see the perforations on this picture:

This is what is throwing me off. In the center there is a pattern. Mine don't have this.

Ah yes, I see. I think yours are ventilated, hence the perforations all over. Mine are non ventilated, so the perforations are for aesthetics only.

They are ventilated but I've also driven an x5 with ventilated seats that had your pattern.

Interesting. I didn't know my pattern could be ventilated.

There are too many combinations of options for me to keep up!

Have you run your 17 digit VIN through a VIN decoder yet so that you'll know exactly what seat and what seat material you have?

In the past, the type of leather material the seats were covered in also came in a different pattern. So if you've seen MC seats, sport seats, or even the basic seat...the pattern used will be determined by the type of material on the seats (Merino, Nappa, Vernasca, Sensatec or the new Sensafin).
