Picked up 2022 X5 Phytonic Blue/Ivory with 3k miles

Been a long time since I've been on here, but finally picked up another BMW 12 years later!

We don't buy cars very often and tend to purchase to own long-term, so finally stopping in again. Just picked up a 2022 X5 in Phytonic Blue with Ivory full leather interior for my wife with pretty much everything except M-Sport and DHP. Unbelievably, only 3k miles(!!!) Was told it was garage kept at someone's beach vacation home, and only driven when they were there. Was not a loaner car. So basically a brand spanking new CPO car configured almost exactly how we would have done a build, and still had the new car smell too! Couldn't believe it.

Had been on the fence about the LCI. Not crazy about the massive widescreen display, not crazy about most if not all of the buttons being removed, and not crazy about the available colors and only Tanzanite really being available for a blue which we're not super crazy about either as a $2k option. I think the final straw was the engine update, ironically. I got all excited when I read that the B58 now had dual (direct and port) injection and some added power, but then read about the the variable exhaust rocker junk that I see people are already having issues with all for 0.nothing mpg improvement, and non-defeatable start-stop. Meh.

Said to heck with it and decided to save $15-20k and buy used. The Phytonic Blue is fantastic, but hard to find with nice options, and especially the ivory interior. Paid a little more than we were hoping, but this was a unicorn especially with only 3k miles on it.

I haven't driven any of the recent BMW's, so was pleasantly surprised with how the G05 drove. Much nicer than the various Fxx loaners I had back when I was still taking my E93 and our E70 to the dealership for services. I told our CA to "hang on" as I let it rip. The B58 is a nice improvement over the N55. Quite zippy and less turbo lag from a dead stop for sure, not that the N55 ever had all that much. Body roll seemed well controlled, the steering firmed up nicely in turns and had some heft to it, and it just felt very well tuned and dialed in, and nicely put together. Would not have bothered with M-Sport or the DHP after the test drive if we were ordering new. Very pleased overall that it felt like a BMW should!

Our older Bimmers:

We sold our 2012 E70 X5d back in 2018 and replaced it with a Chevy Suburban (two kids, now two dogs, and a disabled family member, so yeah even X7 wasn't gonna cut it). Still have my 2011 E93 335i, which my wife has been driving for the past few years. Was going to trade it for whatever we picked up, but just put another $1400 in repairs into it last week, so might as well get one last top down driving season out of it this spring and early summer, and then will probably unload it to the indy BMW shop down the road from me that's been doing a fantastic job of maintaining it.

Pretty happy with the find on this G05. Just brought it home last night. My wife is happy to be back in an X5 again, and now the E93 is sitting lonely in the garage waiting for me to take it for a spin.

Cheers!

Congrats and good find. First thing I'd do is remove that Passport dealer decal on the rear hatch!

Congrats! I also had a Deep Sea Blue E70 diesel (a 2011), and sold it in 2018 for a Durango R/T. I eventually landed back with a 2021 xDrive 40i in Phytonic Blue.

This is an amazing find. Last year, I was happy to find a 2021 40i with 13k miles with options I wanted, but this - 3k! - definitely takes the cake. Congratulations and enjoy, the car looks absolutely stunning!

Thanks gents for the warm welcome back!

Busy week, just getting caught up. Drove the car home and had -no clue- how to do anything. No printed manual came with it, so finally found the online one and just started looking stuff up one by one the past two nights.

Where in the @#%@ is the trunk release button??!?! Ohhh....

The car is so new that the protective manufacturing tape was still around the door sill emblems? What in the world?!?!? It was never removed? Really unbelievable. But.... there's a scratch on the passenger side window sill chrome trim so it's definitely used. No biggie, don't care. My wife noticed this stuff at the dealership, but my brain was processing other things at the time and it didn't register.

Driving impressions, we both absolutely love it. After some disappointing Fxx loaners that just left us cold back in the day and caused us to lose interest in BMW's for awhile, we're both loving this G05. It feels special to drive and you feel special driving it, which is exactly how it's supposed to be. It feels like the ultimate driving machine again, hallelujah! Nothing more needs to be said!

We did pay a bit more than we wanted to, but after doing some additional post-sale pricing research I realized what a steal this car was. Other sources (KBB) weren't accurately factoring in low miles, and I forgot to factor in it was CPO. Consumer Reports had much better information, and the car absolutely would have been gone in another few days if we didn't take it. Totally worth it.

Very nice!

Here's our E70 the day we picked it up at the dealership, side-by-side with my E93, and then probably the last wash I gave it in August 2018 as I was getting ready to trade it for my Suburban. Loved the E70. We were definitely sad to see it go, but needed something waaay the heck bigger.

It was originally purchased in August 2022, so a pretty late MY22. It had an oil change done in late-Sept 2023 with a whopping 2,000 miles on it, so was recently serviced. It was only owned a little over a year.

I thought of that. Might have them do it when I go back for plates. It's from Delaware so no front plates and there's not even a front plate mount installed, but we need them here in Maryland. I did find a front plate mount kit buried in the trunk where the donut spare would go.

I honestly don't mind advertising for Passport. It was on these forums, probably over at BF, where everybody in the MD/VA/DC sub had recommended them when we were first getting into BMW's. They were a class act back when we bought our '11 and '12, and happy to see they're still a class act today. Top notch sales people, super friendly and professional, no BS at any point, very good pricing on the cars, and orders of magnitude better than the local Rockville (formerly "VOB") BMW dealership, who are just total "asshoe" for sales, but at least have a solid service department. Would be perfectly okay leaving it on as a nice subtle middle finger to them. Lol

Yeah it's a rare case where I actually prefer the pre-LCI for some reason! Both the E70 and E93 we had were LCI cars, and other makes I usually prefer that as well. It's when they have most of the major bugs worked out and add in some nice extra features, except BMW has kinda gone backwards here. Same with X7 with the really polarizing facelift. Neither my wife nor I cared for it. Was looking for one of those used also, but decided to go X5. If we really need to haul stuff, that's what my Suburban is for.

1,000 mile update, so 4k miles total.

Loving the car so far. A few minor nitpicks.

Having trouble getting my seating position dialed in just right. The seats aren't uncomfortable, but definitely aren't as good as the multi-contour seats I had in our E70. I think it wants a raised up driving position, which I try to avoid because I'm really tall and it ends up cutting off my upward visibility (for lights, etc), but I think that's what it really wants. Will have to fiddle more, but I'll eventually get it dialed in. The brakes seem a bit weird at times. I think it's the cutover between the regen and real braking. The ASS engaging in slow speed parking maneuvers including in reverse is just freaking stupid. Not only is it annoying as anything, but it's also unsafe if you get a bit of a surge when the engine kicks back in. They ought to lock out ASS if PDC is turned on or you're in reverse. So I just put it in Sport while parking to disable it, and problem solved. I like the heft of the steering at speed, and in sport mode around corners. Feels great and way better than F15, but I dislike how the effort lightens up at slower speeds. I guess it takes some getting used to. Nothing will ever truly replace the classic hydraulic power steering that BMW was known for for those of us OG enough to have experienced it (had it in our E70 and still have it in my E93). It's not terrible. I just don't like how they have the rack tuned, and wish the heft would remain down to lower speeds also. It is what it is.

Love the car otherwise. The B58/ZF8 combo is truly world class. Amazing engine, literally zero turbo lag, sounds great and pulls hard up to redline, and the gearing and shift quality and scheduling of the ZF8 is absolutely amazing. The 335hp is definitely underrated by quite a bit. This is more than enough power for either my wife and I, living where we do in the congestion of the DC area suburbs. Very pleased with the handling and ride quality of the standard suspension. You can take turns hard, body roll is kept in check, and the ride comfort is still very good. This is classic BMW suspension tuning, with the perfect balance of sport and comfort, exactly as how things are supposed to be.

I don't even know which version of iDrive is in a MY22, but whatever it is works very well. Getting up to speed quite quickly. Love the screen size even on pre-LCI. Navigation works very well, and the HUD is amazing. Lots of features to figure out, but it all seems familiar from our E70, just newer, bigger, and better now.

Went on a 320 mile road trip over the weekend, and it peaked out at just under 29 mpg straight highway with a mix of 75 mph interstate and 55 mph country two-lane driving. Including all local driving, the trip average was 26.5 mpg, which is incredible and probably a little bit better than our E70 X5d was, while being way faster.

Couldn't be happier overall.

With both of us having come to the G05 from a E70 diesel, it's nice to see you have similar comparisons as I have experienced. My E70 was similarly equipped as my G05, with multi-contour ventilated massaging seats, HUD, third row, etc. I too found the E70 seats a bit more comfortable but can't quite pinpoint why. Same with the steering - I thought the E70 was spot on, and the G05 is a bit less "precise". I do find that using Sport Individual mode with the steering set to Sport improves it. And, like you, I was very disappointed with the steering in the F85 loaners I had. And yes, the regen braking does reveal itself sometimes, as does the programmed downshifting of the transmission as you slow to a stop. I have gotten used to that, and actually like the engine braking the downshifts provide.

I have coded my G05 to default to Sport Individual, with everything but the suspension set to Sport. This turns off the ASS, firms up the steering, increases engine response, and has more aggressing shifting and downshifting.

The E70 diesel was a road trip beast with bladder-busting range and gobs of low-end torque. The G05 is just as good, delivered in a different way. I am very happy with the combination of power, range, efficiency and comfort of the G05 40i. And so far, at 46,000 miles, it has been flawless; much more reliable than the E70 diesel, which seemed to have some sort of emissions component failure every 10k miles.

Best of luck with yours.

Only 3k mikes is a pretty good find. Regarding DHP, I believe you would have to move up to the M50/60i to option it.

I jokingly told a dealership that I'd keep their badging on my vehicle, only if they paid me $300 a month. That resulted In immediate removal of their branding. So far no one wants to pay haha.

Nitpicks aside, the G05 is great. They're never going to make them like they used to, but what they're building right now is truly excellent. It's a pleasure to drive.

I think the E70 was an inch or so taller, so could raise my seat up just a bit higher to the point it felt a bit unnatural, but was more comfortable. With the steering, I think BMW is just trying to make too many people happy. I read maybe 10 years ago (about the F-chassis cars) that BMW was selling more cars in the Asian markets than in North America and Europe combined, and the super light steering was their preference. It's definitely better than with F15, but I'd rather have a consistent steering feel is all.

It seems like you can get it, but only if you set it to Sport Plus, which seems to unlock a steering mode that you can't set in Individual mode, but you're not going to be cruising around town in Sport Plus! I'll get used to it!

How do you code one of these cars? Is it DIY or do you have someone do it for you? Looks like it can be done remotely? I think I'll do the same and code Sport Individual by default with ASS disabled, but for now am just hitting the Sport button right after start.
