F97 wheel on g05- Will it work ? (Thread)

Back story -

Had g02 with standard sport wheel.
The plan was to just buy an msport air bag and throw on this wheel.

Wild December Christmas bonus and good numbers from the dealer and I ended up with an msport x5.

The plus- don't need to buy an airbag.

Now I need to figure out how to swap out the trim and buttons.

This should be doable. But definitely not plug and play anymore since my new car has the different driving assist options

I've done the wheel swap before on the g01 and g02.

That part is easy.

Can I get some moral support here ?

Straight forward swap.
Internals are the same, just multifunction button and trim are different.
Oh, you'll need to move the top cover and M1/M2 button over too if you want to keep them there.

First update.

I started disassembly and realized I will need some tiny torx bits. Luckily I work at an industrial supply store and can pick these up in will cAll tomorrow .

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but if you don't have an M version of the car, won't the customization M1 and M2 buttons just be for show?

Fair question.

Yes the buttons will likely be for show. Someone posted in the X3 that they found some settings on BimmerCode but I'm not holding my breath.

Initially I was going from a standard sport wheel on an x4 and wanted the thicker "m" wheel.

I loved the tri stitching and this wheel was local. So I pulled the trigger.

You had to bring up my PTSD again with the fiasco many of us endured with the lack of m sport wheel on our first year X3 M40i!!

Ended up with this.

Sigh 😔.

r33_RGSport What do you think I broke ?

I also found out that my coding laptop is toast. .....

Just saw your post, sorry.

What happened? You turn the car on without the airbag?

I believe it should go away after you sort it out.
If it doesn't, you'll need to use ISTA.
