So what is realistic?

Also, sincere question, when dealers do 10% with base MF and all incentives applied, do they make money on vehicle?
You can always try but you are getting about 7% which in my area would be a good discount, in other areas it will be low. If I remember correctly Texas dealers are not generous with discounts so you may be doing well.

Yes, they make money it is just a matter of how much. Incentives are corporate so they do not come out of their pocket.

Texas area dealers can do better than that 7%, you just have to shop around and get quotes. Whoever wants a good deal in TX just pm me and I can give you a name to who you can go to. I was not disappointed with that guy until now, although I might ask a lot every time but it is what it is, they can't give you cars for free as we all wish.

Quick question on the combinability of various incentives. I know the USAA and corporate fleet discounts are not combinable - ie just one or the other. It also looks like the car would not be valid for the BMWCCA rebate if the corporate fleet incentive is used. Is there any restriction on eligibility for the BMWCCA rebate if the USAA discount is used?

What's the latest on the corporate fleet list? Anyone have an updated list? Ever since MGruppe was kicked off the list, I haven't found anything else I would qualify for.

The USAA and BMWCCA discounts look like they are stackable again. There have been multiple reports of the BMWCCA rebate being approved with the USAA discount.

Regarding the USAA discount, how does it work? Is this something you need to submit up front? I ordered a 2020 X5 xdrive 40i, agreed on price and put a deposit down. When the vehicle comes in and I go to sign paperwork is this something I can submit then?

Thanks.

What percentage should I be targeting for a 2019 X5 40i on the lot?

Ok cool - that is good to know. I’ll plan to use the USAA discount then. If they were not stackable then I guess better to just go only with the BMWCCA rebate.

Yes, just go to USAA.com and get the certificate and then when you sign the paperwork you will give it to them. Obviously it would be best to let them know beforehand so they use the correct numbers on the paperwork.

In regards to stackability with BMWCCA, starting with vehicles purchased after July 5, 2018, you were able to use both BMWCCA and USAA.

One suggestion if I may, let's include doc fee in our price quote. I've noticed doc fee changes so much from dealer to dealer (some states have set fees, others have no cap). I recently talked to a Georgia dealer that seemed to be competitive at first but then found out they were charging $800 doc fee

It varies by state:

https://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/w...d-you-pay.html

Notes:

1. Maximum sales tax
Often you pay a combination of state, county and local taxes. This is the estimated maximum tax you should be charged, depending on what city you live in. The sales tax rates were sourced from sales-tax automation company Avalara.

2. Average DMV fees
The typical amount it will cost to register a new vehicle in your state.

3. Trade-in sales tax credit?
If there is a "Y" in this column, it means that you will pay sales tax only on the difference between your new-car purchase and the value of your trade-in. If there is an "N" in the column, it means that you will pay tax on the full amount of your new-car purchase.

4. Are incentives taxed?
A "Y" in this column means that the buyer will pay tax on the purchase price before the manufacturer rebate is applied.

5. Doc fee limits
This will tell you if the documentation fee is regulated by the state and the maximum allowed amount.

6. Median doc fee
This is the typical amount you can expect to pay for a dealer documentation fee. In this case, we've provided the median amount charged per state, rather than the average, because we think it gives a truer representation of what most buyers will actually pay.

Good post but I think that table is out dated. I know for a fact IL has a $179ish doc fee as of 2019 and is adjusted annually. It's easiest for posters to just share that doc fee based on the state they register as they would know first hand.

That's why I was suggesting when we share prices we should include doc fee. Getting a $800 doc fee vs $200 is almost 1% (If we assume a 60k-70k range build).

Doesn't matter what is reasonable. We just need to compare apples to apples. If people sharing 11% off MSRP deals are paying another $700-800 in doc fee it's really closer to 10% with a $200 doc fee. That's all I'm trying to clarify.

My point is it varies by state, individuals can and should google/search doc fees and not rely on an enthusiast auto forum to get all their answers.

I would agree to an extent but doc fees change so often AND there are many states that simply have "no cap" on it, therefore a dealer can charge $1K if they want... so you can see variation even within a single state. Hence why I'm suggesting we should post doc fee on the price/deal

Haha, thanks for volunteering to starting that thread and keeping the doc fees for every state up to date

Matters to me b/c I'm being quoted a $799 fee and I wanted to get a feel for how much they're potentially making.

I'm being quoted 10% off plus finance incentive and loyalty rebate. But with a $799 fee and a slight markup on the interest rate to 3.49%.

You and I are saying the same thing. What you described is exactly the concern I have. At $799 doc fee you are really looking at 9-9.5% depending your build. I'm saying $799 is fine as long as you factor that into your price. You can push for more than 10% IMO.

Interest rate of 3.49% is BS considering you get 2.99 from BMWFS which is required for you to get the $2000 incentives.
