Dealer/Distributor messed up order detail. Opinions wanted.
Preface: So, I recently ordered a 2020 X5 M50d, and have been patiently awaiting arrival of the truck. Everything has gone according to plan, timing wise. In Germany, we don't get temporary plates, but have to submit registration when the car arrives. Unfortunately, in Berlin, this process can take upwards of 3-4 weeks, and sometimes longer, all because of short staffing. Annoying, but it's part of the process here.
I originally placed my order (X5 M50D Ordered! with the Individual Piano Black trim. Beautiful I'm sure, but when the Carbon Fiber trim was announced, I had the dealer change the order to those, since I think it adds a bit more detail/contrast on the interior. The problem: My interior option change was never made official in the system, and now I'm "stuck" (I used that term very loosely since it's the most 1st World Problem to have IMHO) with my original Piano Black interior trim. The proposed solution is that I am given the option to either: have the dealer order, and then install the Carbon Fiber Trim at a cost of ~2800 Euro (retail of course not sure what the wholesale price is) to the dealer OR get an additional discount of around ~800 Euro (price of delivery, documents, registration, etc.) It seems obvious to some I'm sure ("Get what you ordered", "Dealer = Stealer", etc.), but I'm already getting a great deal on the truck, so I'm at a loss, because it also comes down to aesthetic preference. It's got me thinking maybe I'd prefer the Piano Black Trim. Figured I'd give everyone a chance to weigh in. Friday Night gambling in a way right?

How about option #3 - reorder? If you don't need it now and the dealer will do it for you with the same deal that may be the best course of action. Short of that, I would say stock with the black piano.

DBV My opinion is that with your choice of interior (Ivory Full Merino Leather Interior) Piano black is perfect combination. Personally I would not want to have the whole trim changed in the interior if it is not absolutly neccesary...But bottom line is that it is your car and you should like how it looks especially in the interior. |

Surely it won’t cost the dealer the actual €2800 it would cost you
I voted to leave it as is but purely because I think the piano black suits the ivory interior best. I guess it comes down to the question: Are you the kind of person that would step into his car and be annoyed by the piano black every time you drive it, because you actually wanted the carbon? If so, obviously have it changed! |

Thanks for the input everyone!
It looks like my gut instinct of sticking with the Piano Black will be the best course of action. Re-ordering isn't possible due to the M50D being discontinued, and would simply take up too much time. I look forward to the Ivory/Piano combo, and think it will suit the all black look of the car well.

An other thing, do you want them to take of all trim pieces with the risk of damaging the rest or having a squeak or rattle. |

That said, I had Oyster/Black gloss wood on my old 750i, and loved it. I think it's close to the contrast offered by the Ivory/Piano Black that I can see myself enjoying it.
