Here is my HT. Just finished the basement, so still working on details. Went back and forth between dedicated home theater room and an open media room. Went with an open media room. The irregularly shaped open space presented lots of audio challenges, in particular with bass response and management. All my floor standers and center channel have built in powered subs. Ended up disconnecting subs in rear surrounds and used a 15 inch Paradigm sub in the back. After smoothing the bass response curves with the Audissey app, finally have decent bass w/o shaking windows.
I did an acoustically isolated/floating ceiling throughout the entire basement. Worked really well. Worth the money imho.

Marantz SR8012 receiver
Def Tech Mythos L/R
Def Tech cs1080 center
Def Tech powered tower rears (subs turned off)
6 Def Tech 8 inch in ceiling Atmos speakers
Paradigm 15 inch sub

The Audiophile Thread

Speakers, DACs, amps, cans, whatcha got? Post it up, discuss, etc!

I'm currently on some Sony MDR-V6's and I'm looking at a Schitt Fulla as my first foray into the audiophile world. I have some Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers, but I wouldn't exactly call those audio grade though they're better than most casual PC setups.

This can become a very expensive hobby/passion. I unfortunately have never had the right space for dedicated listening, but I do love the gear. I don't know if it's a man thing but I love stuff I can touch and look at. (The cool pic thread is one of my fav's but I digress). I have alway had a system. I love the tubes, there is something about them that pleases me from a listening point of view and the look. I like high efficiency speakers, horn loaded if possible and have had a number of sets of Klipsch heritage series speakers. Not really audiophile stuff in the true sense but I love the sound and presents of them. I just gave my son a set of Klipsch Forte's with the Bob Crites upgrades and a small 15W+15W tube amp and he's loving it.

My current set up which is still mostly in boxes as we just moved is a Synthesis Seamus push pull tube amp, with Zu Omen Def MKII speakers, American made and I love these things. They take some fooling around with room placement but do they deliver. The rest of the system is a CD player also Synthesis but really don't get that much use anymore as we stream a lot of music. I should get a proper transport and a turntable which is yet to be unpacked and set up.

I have too many toys and too many interests, at least my wife says I do.

Just upgraded from those cans. Excellent tuning, but they fall short technically (staging and resolving) compared to better headphones. Now running Sennheiser HD600s with the Topping E30+L30 amp+DAC stack. Got them for $300 from Sweetwater and $130+$130 (Amazon). For a step above entry-level, I'm very happy with this setup. Definitely an improvement over super cheap stuff. Worth it to spend a little more, IMO. Get yourself a Christmas gift or three

While I enjoy music, I find myself more drawn to the technical aspects of audio. Maybe not the exact replication of tonality as I feel that's highly subjective but the recreation of the sound stage and imaging. Because of that I enjoy building my own home audio systems.

My last one was an open baffle setup with a pair of PS220 and 4 15W700 running off ~900w with all processing done through a computer. The room was 12x14 with a combination of absorption and diffusion with over 80 hours into measuring, placement and EQ. I ended up with something that I was very happy with for stage dimensions and imaging.

I ended up moving recently to a new home and it has no suitable room for a home audio system so I won't build another one as long as we live here. The room and how it's designed is easily more important than than the selection of speakers or drivers. So I moved over to headphones and made due. I'm using a set of Focal Clear on a Schitt stack with some EQ. I feel the tonality is very good as is the imaging but the sound stage is drastically less involving than a home setup. Going from something with a stage width of 12-14 feet to just a little outside your head is blah.

Murf,

You seem a little tense today.
Pls visit your tubes & report back in the morning.

My Tubes had to go to the shop, they didn't like the move too much. I have a bad socket I think. Oh well, rum and then maybe some bourbon.
