I love the merino leather but the diamond pattern in a all black msport looks terrible, does not go with the sport look so I am passing on it , I wish it did not have the diamond pattern

I didn't like it either but my wife wanted the ivory and she liked the piping, so we ened up ordering the Merino. We are so glad we did. It is amazing. The diamond pattern doesn't bother us and the leather is so soft. |

Basically just convinced me Macan or X3 were the only options. With the former probably being a touch above in terms of finish and quality when you go all in with the options. But for crazy money. |

Interesting thread. Wrinkles vs no wrinkles. One of the things I always like about my seats in all my BMW's is that they were firm, clean looking and held up for many years without wrinkles. They did wrinkle though if you owned the car long enough but for me that was acceptable due to its age. The seats in my 840 creased and wrinkled but my other models didn't hardly at all.
I agree its a personal thing so to each their own but...for those who don't like it in a new car but want the Marino leather, too bad, you've got to accept wrinkles. I have a bit of difficulty with that. Thing is that on the BMW NA site when building the car, it only shows the sides of the front seats. I could not find a way to do a 360 of the interior and of course there are no wrinkles on the part of the front seats you can see. However, if you go to the UK site, they give you a 360 so you can in fact see the entire back seats....and look what they look like.. .. .. so in looking at these pix, what would you expect your seats to look like when your car arrives? |

Vernasca leather
Hi. I have an x3 with Dakota. Buying x5 but concerned about the leather being wrinkled. Could you help me understand how it could be intentional. Thanks

I saw the tetragon at the dealership the other day. I liked the vibrant color of it, but the pattern started making my eyes feel weird the more I looked at it. I ended up choosing the open pore anthracite wood. It looks great in person and feels very rich.

When we say the Merino leather is "softer" do we mean the whole seat (cushion as well) feels softer, or the leather (just the outer material) feels softer?

Starting to sound as if we have some who has what leather "snobery" here.
"Lesser leathers", "a step smoother than sandpaper", absolutely hilarious to see guys validate themselves by virtue of what leather they have. |

What's wrong with either of those two vehicles? Just sold the Z06, great car but I really wasn't using it at this point.
The Z06 had leather seats with the center section of seat base and back done in GMs version of Alcantara. Best seat material arrangement that I have owned to date, not hard to see why Porsche, Ferrari, and other high line manufacturers offer this. |

My wink at the end is an indication that was pulling your chain a bit. You talk about how interesting it is how some guys validate themselves by comparing leather, then I noticed your garage and just had to chuckle. It's all good! |

My '21 M50i is outstanding and that is coming directly out of a '19 Cayenne. The M50i is a better vehicle in every way from my perspective. The Porsche is just not worth the price. Thanks for the compliment! |

Luxury seating package with Black extended Merino. Best decision I made in choosing these two options. Vernasca is closer to Dakota, which I had in my previous 5 series and I wanted something little softer and more premium feeling.

I took a few minutes and really looked over the Vernasca Leather in my M50i today after reading all the different opinions and preferences here on this forum.
I can really see what some of you guys are alluding to about the Vernasca. It looks great but does have a bit of a synthetic feel. I can see why a number of you guys are pretty emphatic about the upgrade. I get it now. I stand corrected and kinda wish I would have gone for the top level now that I have paid some attention to this aspect which I should have done before ordering the vehicle. |

The Vernasca leather used in the X5 is much different than the one used in the X3. When I traded my M40i in on the X5 I was pleasantly surprised at the feel of the Vernasca in it. I'm wondering if they have two different suppliers for them. The X3 definitely got shafted in comparison.

I thought the same thing as the Vernasca I felt in a 2019 X5 was nicer than a X3 M40i loaner they gave me last year for half a day and it had Vernasca. I am sure there is many different ways you could produce a top coat leather and maybe they do vary by hide grade and supplier. The X3 leather seemed cheaper but it could have been me not use to the X3 interior compared to the X5. Last edited by MystroX5; 11-28-2020 at 10:18 AM.. |
