Macadamia Metallic (U80)

Seems to be valid, as my CA placed the special order and it was approved. I received a production number for our someday in the not to distant future X5. One week and counting, at the start line - “making space in the production schedule”. Planning to pick it up in Spartanburg (PCD) May or June and drive it home to AZ.

X5 xDrive40i
Atlantis Blue/Ext’d Tartufo, M Sport, Ext’d Shadowline
20” M 740 M, 10 Spoke Bi-color wheels
M Sport Brakes - Blue, Trailer Hitch, Space Saver
Executive, Driver Assit Pro, & Lux Seating Packages
Did they have you acknowledge that the lane change assistant will not be available since you have an individual color? BMWUS sent an email with that info in it that was for my dealer and me to agree to.

I have not heard anything from my CA about deletion of the “lane change assistant” portion of Driver Assitant Pro package. I did see that statement on the BMW Individual Visualizer. Doesn’t make much sense to me. How is paint color going to affect a specific sensor package operation. If it’s true about deletion of lane change assistant, I really don’t care, one less electronic nanny to turn off.

It is not the color but rather seems the paint/painting process has not been tested/certified with the sensors.

The lane change assistant is not an electronic nanny but rather a driver assistance feature that you can use if you want to make the lane change for you by hitting the turn signal.

From my searching on BMW Lane Change Assist

"It seems to work only when your cruise control is set to steering & lane assist. Which is when you have to hold your hand on the wheel, you have the active cruise control set, and the green lane markers lit up. It also works above a certain speed. I think 40 mph is the minimum. It does NOT work when cruise control mode is active traffic assist. If you turn on the blinker, it will just cancel the active traffic assist and revert to steering & lane assist.

Once these are satisfied, you just push turn signal stalk up to the point of resistance and HOLD it. After 2-3 seconds (it checks if everything is clear) it will show the lane as gray, and a green arrow over it, then the car will start moving. You are still advised to hold the steering wheel while this is happening. Once the car starts moving you can let go of the stock."

That description from a current X5 user sure sounds like a nanny assist to me. I don't see it working in urban interstate traffic, rural nterstate settings probably ok. Heck by the time all happens I could have looked in the mirrors, twisted my head several times and long been past the obstructing vehicle. I successfully navigated the European motorway system @ 120+ mph on motorcycles and cars many times without any LCA. 10 years from now when vehicles achieve a proven track record of level 5 autonomy, then I might be interested. Till then Freude am Fahren.

Anyway not to highjack the subject of this thread any further, LCA or not with Individual color, I don't care. It's such a pitiful shame that we have to pay BMW extra big $$ to get a decent color selection. Years ago they used to offer a wide range of no or minimal cost stock OEM colors - back when they were working hard to increase their car sales.

Nice try changing your position/definition but really doesn't matter if you are misunderstanding the feature since you likely will not have it anyways.
