I consider this thread a HUGE success. Thanks for chiming in, providing your experiences, and sharing pictures. I'm crazy-stoked about doing the same thing.
Glad I could help
FYI, the stock pipes are not parallel to eachother height wise, so when you start adjusting, don't be surprised if they are not the same height.

LOL.... gotta "get" the car first..... which is proving to be it's own challenge. But, whenever it does decide to arrive, I'll be ready with all the parts I will have stockpiled up to that point.

Does the M performance exhaust come with tips?
The M50i is standard with that exhaust and we won’t get tips, that’s why I ask.

I believe it will come with the set including m perf tips which will have carbon fiber finished. But now for G05 it’s not release yet. I talked to the guy at getbmwparts and he said the parts can see on inventory but not available for sales which mean it will come out eventually like G05 M performance brake now available.

Mine is 2019 50i come with M exhaust too but not sure if it them same as M50i. I think for the M Perf exhaust the sound will be more agressive like they did in F15 version. You can find the link in youtube, the sound in totally different.

That sounds really good. Admittedly, I've found that I appreciate the ability to be "dead silent" at times though, so I'm hesitant about ordering an exhaust that eliminates my ability to do that.

The tips however, just give it a bit more aggressive "appearance" which was really all I'm looking for.

just an update, ended up loosing one tip on the highway so I just took them out and called it a day.
Not sure if its the vibration loosing them up or once they get hot they expand and then shrink and fall off

Thanks for the heads up. After the first few drives, I will re-check them to make sure they are still tight. Or... I'll just have them welded.

Just an update for those who are still interested.

I have the same tips installed on my 2019 50i around same time. It's a perfect fit and look very aggressive. After reading OP lost One of his tips, I drilled small hole through all tips including the one on SAV to secure them with small screw. They don't rattle and don't move.Problem solved.

Does any of you folks know if this can be done on a 40i?

IO'm sure you can.... but the 40i (I believe) only has one tailpipe on each side... not two. It will definitely look different.

You may want to do some measurements (like what was done in this thread), and see if you can find a "Y-pipe" that splits into 2 exhaust pipes, but is short enough to fit behind the bumper

AWESOME!!! Let's see pics!!

I still have mine... sitting in a box in my garage.... along with the entire M performance decal set...... just waiting on the frickin rain to stop.

I live in Belgium.... I literally haven't seen the sun in about a month... and that was only for a day. I haven't seen "regular sun" since last October.

I'm not good at posting pic. but they look exactly like pic. posted by Tim2189. I had help from a friend and he came up with the idea/remedy to put the screw. He pushed the tips in tight and drilled small hole through bottom of each tip and put a small screw to hold them.

Tim2189 did all the hard work.My friend just improvised it to make it work.

I understand. I haven't even crawled up underneath it yet..... but did you need to remove the diffuser to get access to them?

No. You do not have to remove diffuser. Had to remove heat shields though for better access.

First off.... those tips are NOT the right size for the exhaust. Even with them clamped down all the way... they still slip easily on and off the factory tailpipes.

Second..... where there's a welder, there's a way.

Third..... I decided not to install the tips "long side up".... but rather "long side in"... so the angle of the tips follows the curvature of the bumper.

Fourth..... While I was under there, I went ahead and disconnected the pins that operate the flapper valves, so they are now permanently open, and my ECU doesn't know any better for it. Definitely sounds "healthier" now.... and I'm quite pleased with how it looks.

After disconnecting the solenoid pin, did you tie the flap in the open position? If you didn't, it will flap around (pun intended) and rattle. Single strand stripped electrical mains wire works well for tying it open.
