Just curious, how does my BMW work remotely? There must be a SIM card or something. Will it stop working and force me to pay for SIM data through AT&T or another carrier?

BMW standard comes with Connected Drive services some of which are free for as long as the car is technically capable and some come free for 4 years then you have to "renew" after. BMW's today use a 5G cellular connection for which you will never be charged separately. In addition, you can get a personal eSim option which will allow you to add the BMW to your cellphone plan to get things like Hotspot for people in your car. This is a separate cellular connection from what BMW uses for its remote services.
