'24 X5 - B&W logo LED stuck in white after update

Hey all,

Recently installed the latest id 8.5 and the LED for the Bowers & Wilkins text logo on the center front speakers are stuck in white.

Before update, the color would match the rest of the cabin ambient/speaker lighting color.

Is this a bug or intended? My OCD is killing me lol.

Last I saw it was a bug in an early version of 8.5. I'm pretty sure I saw it was fixed in later ones. Just to make sure it is not something with the install, restart iDrive and see if it changes.

I did see that too but I was not affected. It is only with the most recent update where the color would not change with the rest of the cabin.
Super weird! Restarting iD does not resolve.

What version did you update to?

Mine are also stuck white. Interesting I could’ve sworn they changed color before, but not now when I change my colors by voice.

I’m on 11/2023.30. I’ve never done an update myself.

I did have it in for battery warranty work last week. They didn’t mention any upgrade being done, and I didn’t look at my version before dropping off. Maybe they updated then?

8.5 here and theyre in white. I think it will stay white and they might not change it with new updates.

I found the fix. It’s surprisingly simple and appears to be a bug.

Interior lighting —> Ambience —> Lighting effects —> Speakers

Set to OFF

When the switch is ON (green), they go white.

When the switch is OFF, the speakers will update color to match the interior ambient lighting color.

I presume this is a bug - it’s certainly counter intuitive, though at least there’s a way to get this back on.

Excellent, thanks for poking around, finding this and posting the workaround!

aug0211 I’m talking about the Bowers & Wilkins text logo that’s on the center speaker cover.

It used to change with all the other speakers but now it’s permanently white.

Oh interesting! I didn’t notice that before. Good eye.

What I did notice just now is that my text there doesn’t appear to light up at all - with that switch on or off. Interesting.

It’s quite bright for me now and I didn’t manually turn my lights on. Do your lights have to be on for this to light up?

I’ll keep looking for it, but so far it seems like mine may not light at all.

Edit: ok I see it now, also only in white so far.

I updated SW to 8.5 because it said something about cooling of the brakes or similar after long journeys will be fixed after I do an update. Surprises like this I dont like. My car came with 8.0 and was hesitant to update… I really think they did this on purpose and it will stay white.

I've had my pre LCI X5M since new and the B&W center dash speaker lighting was always in white, no matter what ambient color I chose for the speakers.
