Cayenne Turbo GT vs X5M
So I have the option to pull the trigger on a Cayenne Turbo GT allocation and I'm torn. I haven't driven ANY of the new Cayennes, and the last gen was pretty good, but I went with the X5M because of stuff like levers to fold the seats down in the rear located in the back and all of the rest of the utilitarian features it has. This makes the X5M honestly my favorite vehicle I've ever owned and it's tough for me to decide what route to go.
I intended to place an order for the LCI until I discovered that they're gonna do some 48v hybrid garbage, add even more weight and that obviously turned me off. I can get an order in before this and get a 23MY before the cutoff and do a individual build other than my Black/black. My current X5M is a lease under an entity for the capex tax writeoffs, and the individual order one would be the same. I think it goes without saying that leasing a BMW is substantially easier than leasing a Porsche, or obviously I could buy it (positioning it towards the end of the year delivery for the tax incentives). It also is worth mentioning I already have a 911 Turbo S coming in, so I'm not sure if I really NEED to have both my SUV beater and my fun car be Porsches. If I didn't love my X5M so much I would of already ordered the Turbo GT but I'm pretty torn. Speed wise the Turbo GT isn't really that much faster than the X5M. Handling wise, I can't tell because I haven't driven one, but it appears to handle better, and one of my favorite things in the X5M is turning everything off on the backroads when I find myself free to tear around like a dumbass. Biggest issue is it's obviously smaller and I do indeed use the X5M to move cargo, servers, etc. Has anyone driven one and can give me any feedback? Obviously going to look at Rennlist too but open to anyone with experience with both platforms.

Speed wise....they aren't the same. I believe they timed the Turbo GT at 2.5 in the 0-60. The X5M is 3.5.....maybe 3.4.
That being said, the GT starts at like 75k more than the X5M. Not really the same cars.

I own a Porsche 911 as well. So don't think my opinion is somehow biased specifically toward Porsche and I am some Porsche fanboy. According to Porsche's website, the Turbo GT with the Sport Chrono package gets a 0-60mph time of 3.1 seconds. Not too far off from the X5MC or X6MC times. With the Turbo GT fetching in a starting price of 181K and this is not even going to be your "Hey look at me!" vehicle, the price of the X5MC or X6MC screams BUY ME, IMO.
Again it all boils down to how wealthy you are and what you want. Obviously, the Porsche carries with it a certain level of appeal and OPTIONS galore as compared to the BMW. I went into the configurator very quickly and added a few options I would want to have and I was up to 200K very quickly! I do like that Porsche does offer the Carbon Ceramic brakes for this model as I do believe the X5 and X6 need them if you are driving the vehicles hard and also to cut down on the amount of brake dust, however like all things they are ways around that as well. Again the sky is the limit, HELL just wait for the Ferrari Purosangue! Hope this helps. |

I will definitely not be keeping the M5 CS, while it's a very nice sedan it's too much of a compromise car for me still and will be replaced by the 911 TTS I ordered. In my garage, I tend to want to pick the X5M more just because it's flexibility and capability since it's almost just as fast and obviously sounds the same. http://www.porsche-code.com/PNGN8GD2 Here's the spec I picked for the GT and it's pretty ho-hum. No fancy interior or cool color either like the TTS I ordered because that would easily put me in the 230k range, which makes me scratch my head if I really want to drive around something THAT pricy every day. There's also the Aston Martin DBX but I've never driven or owned an Aston before and from what I've read they can be temperamental. One of the benefits of VAG owning Porsche and BMW making so many other different models, is that the technology and gear is fairly well sussed out and doesn't have a ton of issues. The Ferrari isn't something I'd be interested in, because if I was going to get one I'd be going after an 812 or something like that.

The Turbo GT is supposed to be incredible but if you need the space then seems like you need to stick with X5M. I'm not sure the 48V would keep me away from LCI model. It's mild hybrid so weight penalty would be, I assume, modest (especially compared to the overall weight). You get the latest look (which seems it will mainly be X6M grill and new headlights) and in car tech (I'm not sure I'm going to be a fan of the tech, admittedly). The only downside I see to LCI is if they remove the auto start/stop as part of mild hybrid - but I would be shocked if they do this in the M, especially since we currently have the option to turn stop/start off and forget it, something you couldn't do with pre-48V G05s (had to hit the button every time you started the car), so it seems they recognize M buyers are more likely to dislike the feature and more willing to accept modest MPG and fuel guzzler hit. |

Turbo GT is a 911 in sport Ute form while others are sport utes. I looked at them too but just could justify the extra cost even after owning two Cayenne Turbos previously.

Call me grandpa but I like my rear seat fold latches in the back. Only thing I'd change about the X5M is giving it CCB's and someone coming out with a real suspension kit for it to take it down just a touch and retain that factory BMW suspension feel.

Sorry but Cayenne for me all day. Had the latest X5M. Nice vehicle. But BMW quality no where near what it used to be. Paying $145K CDN for a GERMAN car, not for Chinese made windshield. That's not being xenophobic. Big difference in quality of the glass. Suspension...sorry not even close. I had to put on MSS and change tires to Micheline from Pirellii to have a modicum of civility with the suspension.
The chime has been heard before....BMW is now for penny pinchers. YMMV, but the Cayenne GT is a GT3 in SUV form. I think it is a bit overpriced myself and certainly way more than the X5M. But guarantee that the C-GT will stand the test of time and quality longer than anything from BMW. They have lost their way. YMMV. |

I don't get the comments about the windshield and I live in literal rock city. Got a nice fresh one on my 911 last night too. Shitty cheapass Porsche. Can't believe they make such cheap windshields Edit: spelling

I must inquire why you are still on this page participating with us low-level auto enthusiasts then? If you think the parts on your Porsche are only made in Germany, boy ole boy are you going to be disappointed. |

Thats like saying the B58 and S58 are the same thing. The Urus engine, as the Porsche GT engine have different components and tuning done by Lambo/Porsche. |
