xDrive45e Options Pricing

Been playing around with the configurator, and stumped a bit on the difference in Package Pricing in the US between the 40i and the 45e.

The M Sport package in the 40i includes an M suspension that would appear to be valued at $850 as once you include the M Sport Package, it only costs an additional $150 to replace the M Suspension with the Air Suspension that independently costs you $1,000.

In the 45e, the Air Suspension is standard equipment, and the addition of the M Sport package does not change the suspension at all, the air suspension remains.

This suggests that the M Sport package in the 45e should be $850 cheaper than the same package in the 40i, but instead, the difference is only $250 (40i M Sport is $5,750 and 45e M Sport is $5500). I can't see any differences in the packages otherwise.

Is the conclusion then that the M Sport package on the 45e is somewhat overpriced as you pay a premium for the cosmetic upgrades versus the 40i?

OK you'll need to download the MY21 pricing and ordering guides to decipher and truly understand the packaging and pricing differences between BMW models. You can't utilize the online builder to get to the granular details.

When you add ZMP M Sport package on either 45e or 40i - the price of ZMP includes ZCV Convenience Package:

45e ZCV = $800 or 40i ZMP $5500 subtract ZCV $800 = $4700

40i ZCV = $1050 or 40i ZMP $5750 subtract ZCV $1050 = $4700

45e ZCV = $800

45e ZMP $5500 – ZCV $800 = $4700

40i ZCV = $1050

40i ZMP $5750 – ZCV $1050 = $4700

Then for 40i you'll have to add 2VR suspension ($150) to equal 45e with ZMP $4700 + 150 = $4850

45e ZCV does not include 1CR Remote Engine Start where 40i ZCV includes 1CR so the price difference between the ZCV packages = $250 which is the price differential between the 45e and 40i ZMP packages.

FYI 1CR Remote Start BMW models is $300 and MY19-20 1CR was available as a separation option for $300

Yes, appreciate the detail and explanation. But I can see that still highlights that the M Sport Package is a worse value on the 45e because, as you point out, the difference is in the Convenience package pricing, meaning there is no discount for the lack of suspension upgrade in the 45e m sport package.

I wouldn't be splitting hairs. the 45e's high voltage battery is purportedly worth $30k yet the vehicle doesn't cost $30k more than the 40i. most would argue the 2-axle air suspension is an upgrade from the M suspension.

Why do you think you're not getting a discount? You're paying $3700 ($2700 if you figure in the cost of the air suspension option for 40i xLine) more for a hybrid with standard 2-axle air suspension. Plus more savings up to $7500 with Federal Tax credit if you're able to take advantage. Not sure I understand the issue around value. Unless it's lack of suspension option then you'll need to decide what's more valuable - suspension or eco.

There's no monetary cost for ZMP 2VF Adaptive M Suspension. It's just the standard suspension that's slightly modified steel spring and strut suspension with software that's tuned for sportier damping compared to the standard base suspension on 40i xLine.

Yes, no doubt, certainly planning to purchase a 45e due to the value prop and the tax credit. Just trying to work through the xLine vs M Sport decision.

I was just about to point out too that the 45e 2-axle air suspension isn't part of its M Sport package. its price is noted in the higher base price. the $250 M Sport price difference between 45e and 40i was delineated by Auricom

No worries, I think what I was pointing out that for option ZMP M Sport package on 40i, there's not cost for the slightly modified suspension with sportier handling and characteristics - which what most BMW enthusiast drivers prefer.

If BMW was able to design a traditional steel spring and strut suspension to deal with the battery weight and additional loads then I'm sure they would have done so. Utilizing 2VR 2-axle air suspension makes it easier to maintain a constant vehicle ride height/level.
