I was on 11/2021 and got upgraded to 7/2023 this week. I have no idea what changes they have made since 11/2021, but I did Immediately notice the assisted driving features on the highway were significantly improved. Much tighter. Less ping ponging down the road.

Just notified AGAIN that my upgrade has expired. This is the 3rd time that this happened. BMWAG, pound sand! I give up. Your tech savvy is worse than mine and that is pathetic. My X5 is probably my last BMW after 13 vehicles. It's sad! Goodbye.

My 2020 X5 M50i has had this problem for several months.

App downloads the software upgrade

The app uploads to the car while driving. Completes.

BMW message says all preparations are complete and will notify me of when installation can occur.

Drive dozens of times. Long drives over an hour. Put on Ctek charger to make sure the battery is topped off. No prompt to upgrade.

Yesterday it said after my next drive, it will proceed with the update. I just took the car for a ride around the block. Parked it. Nothing. Still says preparations are complete and will notify me.

All the same as everyone else here. This is just a BMW failure. My software version is stuck in 2022 still. I've simply given up. When I go to the dealer for service, I'll have them update it but it appears this is an unfixable BMW bug right now, so I will not take any measures to try and figure out what magic is required by BMW to trigger the install.

On my 2021, I've had four updates, two worked as they should, and two did not. In my case on the last one, it downloaded to my phone, but it would not transfer to the vehicle, so not the case where it got there, but would not update.

But, yes, it seems that BMW has made this particularly problematic for at least some. The ones we hear about are not likely the majority, though. Still annoying!

Guys get a code reader and the BimmerLink app. It’s like $50 for the obd adapter and $30 for the app. If there’s anything that’s preventing the update (in my case it was a bad battery, trickle charging did not help) there will be a code. I did not have any warnings or lights but turns out iDrive noted my battery was in bad condition and it was preventing software upgrades. New battery installed and everything started working.

It may be different for you, but highly likely you’d see what the problem is…

I have a 2024 x6 x40i.

I am currently running idrive 8.0 and would like to update to 8.5 or higher.

I am unable to use connected drive and and my dealer strangely tells me they have to reprogram the car in order to update my infotainment (which i find ridiculous)

Anyway,They reprogramed the i level number to: S18A-23-03-567 which i’m not sure is even the latest but can someone confirm🙏🏼

However after they reprogrammed, i am still on idrive 8.0 and i’m frustrated.

Can anyone help me in anyway?

Each market likely has their own take on the update. In the USA, BMW won't arbitrarily update any vehicle unless the update needs to be done to fix a known problem, or it's a safety issue. That being said, BMWUSA has indicated their customers will START to get OTA updates to 8.5 starting this month (September). I've not heard of anyone getting that yet, but it could start any day now. It does not happen 'globally' as I think part of the issue is managing their server's bandwidth and resulting costs.

If Jamaica follows the same schedule, you should get this OTA update sometime soon.

Data privacy is in the same screen as software download but few items above. I tried setting all still no luck.

It is stuck between phone and x5. I called genius several times and they keep saying give it few more weeks. I lost hope. Called service center and they said they will look into it when I bring it for my first service this December.

I pinged my SA and asked if they can just do the install for me or at least upload it into the vehicle, but they said that BMW will not cover upgrades or installation of new versions unless there is an overall issue with the current software, or if the upgrade renders the vehicle unusable.
If ever I want them to do it then I would have to come out of pocket for the installation

Same here, meet all the requirements but no luck.

Stopped at dealer yesterday and asked genius for help. They disconnected everything then reconnected. Didn't work, they gave up.

I received a notice in My BMW app saying my upgrade software downloaded completely and continue the upgrade in car while it is parked. It is being upgraded now. Will update when it’s done.

For folks who don’t know what I am taking about, my uograde software download between my phone and 2023 X5 45e was stuck in a limbo state for almost a month. Now it’s resumed downloading and started to upgrade.

Upgrade finally occurred today. Was on 11/22.

Had the prompt in the app for 6 weeks now. Downloaded, connected, drove, and never updated. Delete, repeat - 3-4 times (and really didn’t care as I’ll need to Bimmercode some stuff/don’t have the driving assistance ). Today the prompt finally said to park it and the install process would take place.

App now telling me install is complete, so I’ll go out and confirm (and get my Bimmercode tutorial back up).

Yes, it was a frustrating process, though for me fortunately not critical.

Not sure why our upgrades are now going through at the same time, mine finally (after a month) also went through to the last step, did nothing different, it just happened.

Hi all,

Same problem here with my 320i.. 5th time I uploaded de update..
no success.
Charged de 12V battery, had a enet cable in house so installed bimmerlink.. e few error codes but nothing that should block update.
30 min ago I mailed BMW connected support and got all ready an answer: I missed the 11/2022 update and this is the reason that the new update 03/2023 doesn’t install. Need to go to dealership to get it fixed :-(

That is false information, it does not need the previous version to install the current. Hopefully your dealer will install it, in the US they generally will not.

I will pass by them tomorrow.. and ask them to fix it..
Better go to the dealer than mail/call them :-)
