I believe they usually close for a week or two for the holidays so likely that may be the reason.

You're best bet is to call the genius line and talk to a rep. They will tell you your build week with an estimated completion date. The online tracker won't show much movement until a few days before your car is built. Remember, it only takes the factory something like 30 hours to build your car once it starts.

Factory is closed December 23rd thru January 10th. Received my production number on December 17th. My scheduled build completion date is February 5th, if that helps.

Are you sure it's closed through the 10th? I have a scheduled completion date of Jan 7th.

From the website and last year's holiday schedule, it looks like they are closed through the 1st and will reopen on the 2nd.

Could be wrong, but, I am told production starts back on the evening of the 10th, for what it’s worth...

ask your sales rep what your build week is. Holiday's so most likely will start production once they re open.

Just called the customer relations line, and have a 'Subject to change' build date of 2/5 as well. Order placed 12/20

When I picked up my X5 at the Spartanburg Performance Deliver Center, they mentioned their holiday plant schedule and should resume production this weekend.

I'd wait and give them a ring next Monday, as previously mentioned the factory and delivery has been on holiday.

A production number just means you have a reservation. Just like booking an airline ticket...when you are due to fly depends on what you signed up for. Each dealer has a certain number of production slots...all the production number means is that BMW accepted the order as written, against one of the dealer's slots. WHEN that slot is, your dealer can tell you. Submitting an offer to the dealer does not automatically push you to the head of the line...it gets assigned to one of his reservation slots.

The next big thing is to get a VIN assigned, which happens closer to actual production.

It is entirely possible a dealer can change an order he had already placed for his local stock to customize it for a customer's order. When he does that, it changes it to a priority 1 order, but it's still in the same production slot. Being a priority 1 might mean if there's a shortage of any accessories, the priority 1 vehicle might get built, while a dealer order for his lot (non-priority 1) might get delayed. An order can be customized up to about the time the VIN is assigned...after that, it's fixed. From order received to production started means they've ordered the specific accessories and non-local parts (i.e., not made in the factory there) to facilitate putting it together during the indicated production time slot. Once the VIN is assigned, and the body is assembled, it's all done in a day or two. There may be a slight delay between the VIN and assembly begins.

Sounds like they don't have an allocation. My understanding has been that an order can't be submitted unless there is an allocation available for that order. They are probably holding your information and trying to get an allocation either from another dealer or from BMW.
