Review by MotoMan: 2021 X6M Competition

Great review of the X6M Competition. I'm a fan of MotoMan reviews, as he gets into how the various technical bits of a car all add up towards the ride, handling, and performance.

The stiff suspension comments are stupid and annoying. BMW has the X5/6 M50i performance SUV that can be ordered with air suspension. M Competition is thought to be for people who want a dynamic, firm and sporty ride. Don’t like it, buy the M50i. It’s as simple as that.

Thanks for sharing. It will be interesting to see if BMW switches to a 48 volt system for the LCI.

Agree. And lots of people around here are swapping/adding springs etc. for stance and I guess somewhat for "ride quality". But there's always a trade-off in responsive handling, body roll, ability to hug corners on a rail, etc.

These journalists want a ride like a marshmallow on top of a cloud, but somehow expect the same sharp handling and zero body roll lol. You can't have both! Drop down a vehicle to the 40i or 50i if you want a more pillowy ride.

I think the point is you can have both a great handling SUV and comfortable SUV. Clearly Audi and Porsche have figured the two are not mutually exclusive.

Like i said, people can always choose to buy M50i. Comfortable and somewhat good handling, at least for an SUV. It didn't make sense for BMW to have two nearly identical performance X5/6 SUVs in portfolio.

I seem to remember from his video on the X5MC, he loved it. I know the X6MC does ride a bit harsher than the X5MC, but come on it's not much different.
But maybe him having reviewed the Audi and Porsche since the X5MC, he aged a bit also?

I love harsh rides and I'm glad I'm back in an M car after almost 3 years in an Alpina B7.

I've been thinking to switch to the F96 but after this video I'm not convinced at all. At the 2 minute mark he (very casually) raves about the power and the vehicle looks like its thrust is pretty tame for an M-car. The stock power to weight ratio doesn't cut it what-so-ever for the price tag. With the DME unlocked and the availability to be tuned it might be worth it. But as is, no way.

Calling the X6M Comp "pretty tame" is a pretty bizarre thing to say.

What is your comparison basis for this? Outside of a fully charged Tesla Model X P100D, this is about as quick as stock SUVs get on the planet.

Not even a Lambo Urus can outrun this by much.

Was thinking the same thing lol! Every review I've seen is people saying how stupidly fast this is.

Also agree - a god review.

The suspensions tend to subjected to widely varying subjective reviews.

Best to ignore journalists' comments and get behind the wheel.

Stock performance has a very low power-to-weight ratio for an incredibly expensive vehicle. The ratio is at the same level as a stock M2C, which is nearly half the price. Bumping up the F96 to Stage 1 would take it up to F90 stock power-to-weight ratio numbers and close to where a stock Urus is at currently. But that's not possible right now.

A stock F10 M5 has a better ratio than a stock F96.

Comparing MAX torque with the car's weight.
