Wheel powder coating recommendation sf bay area

We are going to be taking delivery of a new X5 M50i with the 20in 740m wheels. I wanted to get the black 22in wheels, but didn't want to have to run two sets of wheels for winter and summer driving. I'm thinking powder coating the 740m wheels black might be a good solution. Does anyone have a recommendation for an SF bay area shop that you have used for wheel powder coating before? If so what did it run you?

Thanks

I plan on doing the same thing, but I'm near Sac. I was given a ballpark of $1k before, but I didn't get a firm quote from anyone yet. The car is still on order.

I originally called a plastidip shop to find out how much to just plastidip the wheels would be. They're the one that told me how much powder coating is and that they have a shop they worked with. The plastidip place looks like it closed since then.

Interested in the same - for exact same reasons. Getting a M50i and wanted the 20” all seasons for ride/versatility/tire cost but I also really want a black rim. I think a gloss black powder coat is the right move. Post if you find a good source!

I’m going to be taking delivery in the next week or two and just wanted to check in again if any one has had a good experience with a shop powder coating wheels in the bay. Please let us know if so. If not I’ll start shopping around and update with my experience.

FYI, properly powder coating an uneven surface (not flat) is a challenge even for an experienced applicator. One challenge you may have is the varied thickness you may experience when shop painting a wheel. It takes a special spray gun, a very skilled applicator and the right selection of powder product. Ask lots of questions before you let someone sandblast your current wheel to prep it for new powder. Be sure the shop uses a powder product that can stand up to the elements, lots of washings, and brake dust.

In summary, not all powder is created equal. Just like car brands/models. There's good, better and best for each application.

Thanks for this. Any targeted questions I can ask to gauge the type of job the shop is capable of?

FYI I was getting quotes to wrap my car when I get it. One shop said they work with another and could do it for $200 a wheel while it's being wrapped. I think that's a little high, but it's convenient at the same time since it can be all done at the same time.

I'm curious to find out what the other shop tells you.

$700-800 for the set of 4.

I'm thinking about the same thing, does anyone has pictures of the finishing look for the 20inch wheels?
